I got Superwinch, Tigershark, and Smittybuilt winches that are in my price range.
Tigershark seem to have really good reviews and 399.00 for 9500lb
Smittybuilt 9500lb is 299.00
Superwinch 8500lb is 279.00
Warn is out of the question as you mostly pay for the name and not interested in overprised decor bolted to my bumper!!lol.
any advise...trying to pick one out withing next few days, thank you.

Sorry, you are wrong here.

But anyway

I think @skyhiTJ has a brand new 12k lb badlands in the box with install kit that he wants to sale.
I heard $350 for it but could be wrong

The Superwinch tigershark 9500sr is your best best. Mike at TGMF (Two Guys Metal Fab.) Is a dealer for them.

Find a used 8274. Rebuild the seals on the lower end. Add a contactor (google that upgrade). If patient can do it for $500/600 likely. Also need the winch plate but the right seller may have that to include with sale. Patience.

There is a place on hwy 18 just south of morganton called R&R Tools (I think that's the name). He buys Harbor freight returns and resales them.

Badlands are perfectly fine winches, just slow.

I have had an XRC8 Comp winch on my Samurai for about 5 years. It has not given me any trouble.

I believe the Warn winches are better though. I do not think that you are just paying for the name.

I'm still a fan of Warn. I haven't been impressed enough by any other brand to convince me to switch. I had a VR8 on my buggy and will buy the same to go on the YJ.

This is what I was thinking for best deal. I know warn is good but I just think their too high considering winches go bad mostly from sitting anyways. They offer 3yr extended store trade in warranty so total with that is 389.oo at northern tool. Thanks for some input

Will try check into this, thank u

Buy one with synthetic cable on it. You'll will be way happier in the long run

I've got a smittybilt and it has always got the job done

Badlands are slower then grass growing

Having used a few different brands in the most extreme conditions you can think of, I'm a fan of Warn. But that said, for trail use, I don't think there is a huge difference between the cheapest stuff and the $$$$ stuff. Especially if you're not in a hurry

find a used WARN M8000 and go on about life. if you're serious about wheeling and you definitely aren't, go with a 8274. if you have to ask why, refer to previous comment.

This.

It wasn't that many years ago that a brand-new M8000 could be had for $400. Used ones are pretty affordable.

I'll put either of our 35 year old 8274s up against any shitty Chinese winch out there.

That's nonsense. The only thing that rots from disuse is your pecker.

Harbor freight all the way. Used the heck out of a 12k, that we got on sale for $299.

I will never buy another warn, after having two crap out on me, and warns response was no enough use, and the seals that didn't seal.

Currently also run a Ramsey8k I bought used.

With that said. We also have a mile marker 8k from 2004 that has always worked, never issue other than making a new controller with a momentary toggle switch instead of the factory push button.

The mile marker 8k has been on. 7k lbs suburban and a 6k lbs one ton truck.

The harbor freight 12k in on the back of the 6k lbs truck.

The warns were on my yj, and the Ramsey is now on the jeep.

I will buy used Ramsey , mile marker, or harbor freight.

Until warn wants to sponsor me to cut the price in half to make honest comparison I won't have another.

My bought new Ramsey rep8000 has had three motors on it. My used M8274 will pull my cj down the road at speeds fast enough to get a ticket. Both work fine, but for $400 a used 8274 is a no brainier. Run an in cab direct controller and forget about it.

Wasn't this thread started by a guy that claimed his shit was so tight that he'd never need a winch?????

When the dinosaurs come back and humans are no longer on this earth, they'll be wheeling willys 3as with chevy small blocks with warn 8274s and TSLs. Cause that shit just works.

Nah brah, YJ wranglers with LS engines and Superduty axles. GFY. :flipoff2:

I am not going to outright defend Warn on their winches (since I have never owned anything else) but I will say that anyone that thinks ANY winch will be 100% reliable without regular maintenance and use is kidding themselves. Sure, I can purchase a $300 winch, let it turn to junk in a few years, and then spend another $300 to replace it. Or, I can spend more, keep up with the maintenance and repairs, and be ahead of the game with an overall better/stronger/faster winch in the long run. The latter is what I choose to do. It should be what we all do with everything related to our vehicles considering what they are exposed to and asked to do.

hey hey hey now...this is also the same guy who probably you and everyone made bets years ago I wouldn't make it out of the parking lot or dare even try Easy st....and I've conquered just about every trail there but 2 and all but 2 at the shop and my so called "deathtrap control arms" is still in one solid piece....Just Sayin!!made a hell of an attempt on carnage finally but that is why I'm getting a winch...I finally realize there's no more trails to do without one and to go play on the real hard stuff, for my size rig and setup, I need a winch now to help me through those areas so I can continue on.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still not fond of winching at all as to me personally it doesn't count as "conquering" the entire trail BUT now realize that you have to in some places/trails to keep moving forward and at least get to attempt/exit the rest of it.
I've done my best to stay off the "buggy trails" to not clog them up/be in their way or piss them off but with a winch I see that I can safely tackle those trails and pull cable when needed to keep it moving (at least for the doable buggy trails lol).

I have a 8000lb warn that needs a little love and a bucket full of parts that would probably build another winch I'll let go for $300. And if you catch me in a good mood I may throw in some other stuff I am tired of kicking around.
