buying a winch...too many to choose for my budget

I have a 8000lb warn that needs a little love and a bucket full of parts that would probably build another winch I'll let go for $300. And if you catch me in a good mood I may throw in some other stuff I am tired of kicking around.

BUCKEYE PERFORMANCE INC.

what kind of parts do they need...I don't know winches at all so fixing one/rebuilding type of deal I'd probably find a way to mess it up more. if it's something that "john fuller can fix" I'd be interested maybe. thank you

I've never met you John....just read a LOT of things you've posted, ignored, learned from and generally about you.

So I won't jump on the bandwagon and bash you personally (That'd be rude) But the fact that you've created your own euphemism by default on NC4x4 that I have in fact used when describing something is, in itself, and outstanding feat and impressive.

I'm pretty sure you can totally "Fuller" a winch  but I would be vastly disappointed if you didn't at LEAST consider a god winch

That looks like a fun project. Makes me want to figure out an electric version with EV (electric vehicle) motors and controllers. I just looked at specs on the Warn 8274, and it's only got a 4.6HP motor (at 12V). That's super easy to improve upon.... :p

If you descend on the winch, you can have regenerative braking with an EV controller.. o_O

I'm going to go back to designing TPMS systems now..:D

It has been improved upon. Gigglepin dual motor conversion. They've also reengineered the entire winch. Gigglepin Winches

I think a PTO winch would be fun to have. I might do some looking around to see what I could do with mine.

I've had a smittybilt 8k and Engo 10k. Neither ever let me down, but they are SLOW.

Electronics do not go bad from sitting. They can go bad from sitting in the weather without proper maintenance, but both my rigs lived in a climate controlled garage, and the solenoid packs were both relocated under the hood.

I swapped the Engo for a warn 9.5ti, mainly for the line speed.

hey hey hey now...this is also the same guy who probably you and everyone made bets years ago I wouldn't make it out of the parking lot or dare even try Easy st....and I've conquered just about every trail there but 2 and all but 2 at the shop and my so called "deathtrap control arms" is still in one solid piece....Just Sayin!!made a hell of an attempt on carnage finally but that is why I'm getting a winch...I finally realize there's no more trails to do without one and to go play on the real hard stuff, for my size rig and setup, I need a winch now to help me through those areas so I can continue on.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still not fond of winching at all as to me personally it doesn't count as "conquering" the entire trail BUT now realize that you have to in some places/trails to keep moving forward and at least get to attempt/exit the rest of it.
I've done my best to stay off the "buggy trails" to not clog them up/be in their way or piss them off but with a winch I see that I can safely tackle those trails and pull cable when needed to keep it moving (at least for the doable buggy trails lol).

have you even been on trails when its nothing more than bone dry? as we keep telling you, your image of this sport is from a VERY narrow view point.

The problem is folks who already know it all.
At first it was I have wheeled harder than anyone ever, I never break anything ever. Magic fairy dust.
Then he actually wheeled where a few people actually saw him, and suddenyl hes upgrading axles and u joints and all the normal stuff people said from day 1.
Hed never own a winch, now he wants one etc.

Its almost like everyone here has seen this game before.
Difference was I did it at 22 and "didnt know better" he id doing it at 42 and knows better than everyone else

I love my 9500ti, glad I got it with my jeep. Got my shit buried after leaving the strip club with some strippers in night. Luckily I had my controller with me that night. My buddy,I've known from highschool, was like why did we never have on of those growing up. I love the line speed of mine.

I have a 9.5XP 6.5Hp motor on mine. It's niiiiiiiice...

yep went to the Flats one time for private ride while raining and well....could only do maybe 4yellows and then tried Ol Stumpy and broke the hell out of the jeep D30 at the top...broke EVERYTHING LOL in the front of that thing!! so yes I've done it and wouldn't go back when raining. When somewhat wet yes but not when it's stupid sloppy. I like going mud slinging when it's nasty out but I'm not trying to go up climbs like at these off road parks as my rig can't handle the high rpm stress and such so I know better.
and I don't care what you say, even bone dry those trails aren't as easy as you say always and making the reds when dry is still heck of a lot of fun and accomplishment for me. Last open ride at the Flats, Laurel Lane was no joke and it was dry but many people struggled and many avoided it who could normally tackle it fun with some challenge...dry or not if a trail is challenging dry than what's the point when wet.
I get it though, people have said they've been out in so rough conditions that they have to winch up green trails....that seems pointless to me personally. If you can't make up greens when sloppy than what's the point of even attempting to go further unless your rig can handle it and mine can't so I'm very proud and happy with what I can do and a winch just will give me more available trails and hopefully less breakage!!
Tomorrow heading to buy a Winch!!!

well bought a Superwinch 8500lb got a stupid good deal on it from Amazon...289.00 with free shipping and 2yr warranty so couldn't pass that up and almost all good reviews from different sources and users for the price and brand of the winch. Thank you all for your advise and have a great weekend!! (looking forward to wheeling with winch first time ever, hope it keeps me from breaking LOL)

There is a good deal going on Warn M8000 right now from 4wheelparts.com. The winch is $579 (with lifetime warranty, and made in USA), plus you get a rebate coupon for a Warn accessory kit which includes a snatch block, tree saver, recovery strap, and two clevises. I've got nothing to do with either Warn or 4wheelparts… I just think it is a good deal.

Thanks bud, I bought a new Superwinch 8500lb for 279.00 with 2yr warranty and had best reviews for most non-warn winches so for my first one ever to own, it should serve me well

3-way trail at the flats!

3-way trail at the flats!
He he that's my thought already. 3 way, Superman, and maybe even tank trap if the rest go well and I learn to stay off the throttle and use the winch lol
