im starting to think this may be the best idea. like @StretchASU said there is alot of "Shit" you end up needing to take for a 4-5 day trip. this gets you away from it all but still easy to move around. building one like the one above i think i can change out the top frame to a taller piece and then would be able to leave sleeping bag and stuff up top. so youd wake up, get out fold down the top and could move.

Plus side i think they are building them for 3-4k and i saw people selling the diy ones on expedition portal for 14k, at least i think if i finished it and didnt like it it would be easy to sell.

That’s pretty trick. I’m sure if you put some stickers that say Overland or Expedition on it you can sell it for way more than you have in it

This has my vote.

I saw a guy that made something similar for a 1st gen 4runner. it was really tits bc of the integration w/ the floor, cabin etc. Was just bolted onto the bed sides in place of the factory top.

Fawk that noise... all fun & games UNTIL you take a (drunken) gainer off the top/down the ladder... in the dark... _just_trying_to_take_a_piss_

this guy had a tailgate door, which IMO is the only way to go... for the reasons you mention.
Also if you have decent aim ya don't actually have to exit to piss out the door :D

Bought this last night and just stayed in it for the first time. It's exactly what I've been looking for for a while and a whole lot nicer than roof top tent or camper shell. Has electric roof, ac furnace and bathroom.
That being said, for half the price you can get a 20-28' class c with a lot more space and comfort, just wouldn't be going anywhere fast

I saw that one posted and looked like a good deal, the box on the back was a little odd.

It's to keep your guitar in for singing hippie songs around the campfire.

Makes sense i guess for shortbed trucks instead of a hitch carrier. Since this is a 1251 shortbed camper I've still got 18ish inches of bed space for storing shit so box probably come off

Leave the box and throw an aux tank in front of the camper. Speaking from experience.

Yeah I was surprised you got it since it’s short bed. Let me know when you want to sell me it haha

I just lean the seat back keep the motor running and make sure to take in enough alcohol to sleep well
