Can you believe this shit?

The guy on that Dirty Jobs show helped out on one of those clean up crews on a similar situation. Nasty stuff! Wonder why the renter and landlord don't want a backflow valve installed?

I think the landlord wants her to PAY for a backflow preventor

I would recommend a BFP to ANYONE who is on city sewer. Because if there is a blockage downstream from you, and someone upstream is at a much higher elevation, everything they dump will come right up your line and make a geyser out of your toilet.

And the city doesn’t owe you jack Schmidt if their line backs up

This happened to my folks house a few years ago, same sorta thing, except the floor drain is tied into the sewer too, nice little geyser, flooding thier basement (3/4 finished) with about 2" of less than desirable effluance.

Insurance won't pay because it is considered "flood damage" and you need a seperate rider just for that, outside a normal flood ins. plan.

City won't pay cuz they aren't the ones dumping grease down the drains ( this IS the most COMMON cause of this type problem, again caused by the knuckle heads ABOVE you on the system dumping grease solids down the drain ).

Once it happens, they ( the City ) will come out and Rod the sewer line out for the whole block, and give numbers to several clean up companies.

One of those *rare* moments where you think, Wow i'm glad i have the classic septic....

That's why I'm glad I live at the top of the hill. It would have to be 20' deep across the street before I started to worry.
