I received a letter from census bureau asking me to take a 45 minute survey and if I don't I'll be fined about week and a half ago. Yesterday they sent a follow up letter stating I must respond or someone will come collect the answers and if I still don't answer them I could be fined. Is this shit for real?! Should I just suck it up, waste 45 mins for this damn survey that I really don't have or should I tell them to pound sand? It's my understanding the purpose for this is for government funding and head counts for the House but it wouldn't be hard for them to figure out in their own. Who has done what? Or am I being a bitch and suck it up? NC4x4 tells it how it is so that's what I'm looking for

A few years ago they were sending people around doin this in person. They stopped here, talked to me,within 10 mins was on his way.I declined to answer a couple of questions,no big deal.

Just do it. Some are mandatory some are not, just depends on which one you have. They have a ton of different surveys for different reasons.

A few years ago I got the same.
I waited until they sent the lady to the house.
After each question my wife asked is this answer mandatory.
When they came to a question that was mandatory about how much our vehicle monthly payment was....I had enough of the snooping into my personal life.
I asked the prudish looking snooty lady, "when having sex do you like a man to stick his thumb up your ass"

She slapped my kitchen table and said "excuse me" in a very demanding tone.

I laughed and said, "sorry I thought the point of the game was to ask each other inappropriate questions"

She left without completing the survey and I haven't heard back.

When they did it here they had an ad on the local radio station lookin for people to do the survey, dont remember what the pay was but it seemed pretty good for the job.I knew the guy that came here.

That response could work in so many different situations!

Honestly I later felt bad because "She was just doing her job"...but I'm a pretty private person and it really pissed me of when people start asking me my monthly income and my monthly payments etc.

IIRC those were the questions I declined to answer and like I said I knew the guy so that's why he probably didn't press me for an answer.

Id had to think about the monthly income anyway, its always different.

A while back I got the initial and follow up threat letters but never responded to either. Maybe they sent someone to the house when I wasn't around but I never saw them.
On second thought, just make a bunch of outrageous stuff up and try to skew their results.

that's actually a federal crime...believe it or not.

All I did was went through an answered the questions I felt comfortable answering. I didn't disclose my income or my wife's, what time we leave the house in the am and return home, what nationality I am or race, or my bill amounts each month. I basically let them know two people live here we have internet cable cell phones and told the rest to piss off. They should be happy they got that much, I won't be giving anything else.

Housing and development trends, income and lifestyle trends, etc.

It's a major source of data to determine target markets for new and remodel projects, affordability, needs, wants, etc of the family and housing.

So if we screw up the results we can keep new neighborhoods from ruining the land around us?

Maybe. Or you can keep investors from investing $ into your neighborhood and let it wither away and get taken over by section 8 housing.
Well im not worried about my neighborhood! Aint no neighborhood to invest in, just a couple houses and a lot of t'baccer.

They are tryin to revitalize downtown here where I live.I personally don't give a rats ass what they do but I'm 45,not hip or a social butterfly, and don't care to drive to do the things I want.So whatever. But I see the need,to some degree, for change. The tobacco market was huge in this county back in the day and the powers that be kept a lot of industry, buisness away so they would have workers for the tob market and not have to pay them more than min wage.

The town has dried up to some degree and I know that Jake will probably have to work or move out of county to make any good money. One of their proposals is to fine owner's,condemn and tear down properties that are deemed an eye sore and build gov housing.Granted I don't wanna live next to a crack house either but cookie cutter Gov housing is only about a gnats ass better IMO.

One of our couple friends husband and wife, were both the door-to-door census folks one year. They have some entertaining stories. Learned quickly to just be polite and accept wtfever people told them and move on. The guy (or lady) coming to your house didn't make the questions or choose what to ask, they're just somebody hired short term to do a job.

The better question is - why doesn't the census bureau just get all the info from Google? Or from the NSA. You know damn well they have even more info.
