I hear Ceramic coats are the new hotness and throw dookie at traditional wax.

Who has done it?
What did you use?
Self apply or professional application?

What did you like?
What would you do different?

If for the tech.

I have it on two of my cars. It isn't cheap to have done especially if your paint has lots of scratches. You have to use special soap with a foam cannon to wash the car then use a leaf blower or whatever to dry the water off. The more you rub/touch the paint the more scratches you will get. I will say the wife's 2014 JK looked showroom new when we got it back. You also can't take it through the touchless car wash is the soaps they use will remove the ceramic coating. They have stuff for the windows, rims, you name it. As for cost we paid $1300.00 for the full package on the Jeep.

I have started using Griots 3 in 1 instead of wax. Don't think I will look back. It may not be as good as the real deal $1400 ceramic but it is way better than wax. So it is good enough for me.
It is also easier than wax. Holds up through a car was pretty good. Works on plastic.
It's win win.
Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax

This is the Merc after having it done.

I put one coat of Chemical Guys hydroslick ceramic on my truck last fall. It still beads water up fairly well. For 40 bucks and application that's as easy as wipe on and buff off, I'm good with it.

I'm due for a good washing, buffing, clay barring, and two or three coats of ceramic. I also put it on the windshield and you can't pay water to stay there. I rarely use my wipers anymore.

Any ceramic is only as good as the surface itā€™s being applied to. That is where a bulk of the cost of the pro detailer level ceramics come in because of the time to properly prep the surface.

I did the Avalon King kit on my Ram when I bought it in 2019. It was less than $100 thanks to a YouTube discount code that they had at the time. Pretty sure I got it off VINwiki. For what it is, it worked well. I washed, dried, clay barred, rinsed, waxed and then applied the ceramic kit. 2 years, 64000 miles and Iā€™m about ready to do it again.

I didn't watch the You tube, but they All say Mine is the Best! I'm sure there have been improvements, over the last couple years. Prep is like painting, it Pays off! I did my truck [and lawn tractor] from a spray bottle I bought 2 years ago. It lasted 4 -6 months. The #1 Detail guy around here, still says Wax is best. He won't touch cremanics [last I asked].
