Chainsaws

You will feel the first contact as the crush seal contacts the cylinder head, and then it takes a little bit of force to begin crushing it. Once it begins crushing, it gets easier, then tightens up again. If its an old plug that is already crushed, it pretty much goes straight to bottomed.

So I came across these on FB marketplace yesterday. Looks like the Holzforma saw that they upgraded with Stihl parts. Located in Rock Hill, SC. Check it out @jeepinmatt what are your thoughts?

Personally I hate this because it is intentional deception with long term consequences. Yeah, this guy knows its a rebadged Holzforma. And the guy who buys it knows. But then does the first owner disclose that when he sells it, or does it call it a Stihl MS660?. A year from now the Charlotte market will be flooded with knockoff Stihl's that look like real ones. Dude knows what he's doing and is doing it on purpose for his own gain, at the expense of the "real thing". And I'm not trying to protect or defend Stihl's overpriced saws either. It's a bullshit way of overpricing knockoffs and eventually filling the market with cheap chinese shit. Which will be a pain in my ass as well if I ever go to buy another.

@jeepinmatt I can see you're point there. I wonder if there is an easy way to tell the upgraded knock off from a real deal. Maybe serial number configuration?

Nope no way that's guys thrown all those parts in it. Saw, bar and chain and full wrap handle bar is 450 on Amazon. All the internals are still the Chinese copies. He's changed some covers to say sthil and the plug and that's it.

No way he is buying all the oem parts and changing them out for less than 200 profit

I mean if he bought 100 saws at a time I guarantee you he got them cheaper than the listing price. You do have a valid point though.

And I make nothin'. Zero. By the time I pay my scientists, all the people in my lab. The developers, the lab rats...its a wash! Well why do you do it then Baby Billy? Cause I'm selfless.

New Chinese knockoff. Hasn't been run yet, already getting left in the rain.

My legit 362 is still running strong as hell somewhere between 15-20 years later. Still haven’t changed the plug and I blow the original air filter out with compressed air every few years. First or second pull it fires and if I can slap the choke fast enough, I don’t have to pull it again to run.

I’m not cutting for a living but have a wood stove and help friends cut every year. It’s been screaming every weekend I can get free cleaning up Helene debris at my house or somewhere else since that crap hit.

Buy once and cry once and enjoy your purchase for decades. I just can’t justify saving a few hundred for the potential headache down the road.

@jeepinmatt realized you can't see the choke switch in the pitchur.
What Shawn is trying to say is that he bought a real Stihl 500i instead of a knockoff, and we should actually be proud of him for buying made in America (ish) stuff.

Badass saw. I look forward to buying it from you for pennies on the dollar in a couple years :D

So am I stupid (don’t answer yet :flipoff2: ) for wanting a top handle saw? I can wield my Stihl 180 with one hand pretty good, but for small limbs I think a top handle will be easier. BUT I don’t hear many good things about a lot of the top handles. So if I were to be in the market for one, what do you recommend?

I have a stihl 194t top handle saw i use almost everyday. Never had any trouble out of it, even after I dropped it about 30' one day lol. Also have a echo 2511t, is super light but doesn't have as much power as the stihl. It's what I used when I used to climb. Also have the battery version of it, it's nice for smaller jobs. It's nice to just pick it up and pull the trigger and it just cuts.

I used to have a Husky 338 top handle, used it a whole bunch when I had the bucket truck, and almost never used it after I sold the bucket truck. Now I have a Milwaukee M18 top handle, and I rarely use it, but it is awesome for chopping crotches in the chipper infeed where there’s not enough room or the right angle to get 2 hands on it. To me the only true correct time for one handed use is in a tree with almost no kickback risk. Doing so on the ground on a regular basis is a recipe for disaster. But the battery saw stops so fast and is so controllable that it is definitely safer. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re gonna get one.
