Changes to Tint Inspections

So does this mean you can't get a ticket for it anymore but it may still be checked with your inspection?

I read it the other way, you can get a ticket because the law is still 35% +/- 3%, but inspection stations shouldn't be checking for it.

According to this, it was filed. In the draft it says that it became effective Dec 1, 2021.

Some of the bills list out the Session Law that was made. This one does not, but not sure that it should. It also does not say anything about the House reviewing it, and I would think they would need to approve it also?

According the GS-20, it hasnt changed... but could that be that they just havent updated?

My tint guy (does multiple municipalities & gov't vehicles) said he had not heard of any changes...

I just had my wife's car inspected the other day at a different place (my usual place just moved and wasn't opened up yet). They charged me a $10 Tint inspection even though the vehicle only has factory tint on the rear windows. Is this legit? I wasn't in the mood to argue with them at that point over $10, but it speaks to the integrity of that shop if they were in the wrong.

G.S. 20-183.7
The fee for inspecting after-factory tinted windows shall be ten dollars ($10.00), and the fee applies only to an inspection performed with a light meter after a safety inspection mechanic determined that the window had after-factory tint. A safety inspection mechanic shall not inspect an after-factory tinted window of a vehicle for which the Division has issued a medical exception permit pursuant to G.S. 20-127(f).
