Looking at buying some DOM for a cage for the Willys.

So far I've seen prices range from $1500 to $450 for 100ft of 1 3/4" x.120 DOM. I've talked with Stock Car Steel, Race City, Ryerson, and Metal Supermarket.

Anybody else got a good hookup? Or have some sticks laying around?

Race City Steel up in Denver

100ft will build a hell of a cage. How much do you need?

I’ll second Race City. They’re usually the cheapest when I’ve been in need of steel, and they always have what I’m looking for in stock. Metal supermarket is always high, and never seems to have what I need same day.

@getstucksome and I did a rough estimate on Saturday and with how I want to build it, its going to take large pieces to make it work. I would rather have more than I need on hand. I can always use it later.

Right now, Race City and Ryerson(about $4.50 a ft) has the cheapest pricing and Metal Supermarket was stupid high($1500), couldn't believe that price.

Just price checking now but will be ordering it in the next few weeks.

Well, if you use all of it, you'll have to paint it orange like the last guy that did something similar.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s about how much tube we used on @DieselToyPullr Toyota.

@getstucksome knows what he’s doing. I’m sure that estimate is reasonable.

Thats a ton of DOM ... do the math and then laugh.

Sounds like a substantial cage. 100' is a good ammount to buy. Whereas I usually only use 65-80' on a TJ YJ cage, having an extra stick sitting around never hurts.

Ryerson was the cheapest last time I checked 1.5 years ago.

Metal supermarkets is cheap if you need 3' of something. They're not as competitive IME if you're buying full sticks.

@adamk and @Desertfox1023 just ordered from Race City because they came out way cheaper than Metal Supermarkets.

Metal supermarkets is the I need it now and can't wait, even though they have bankers hours.

Damnit now I have to build it like that :lol:

I usually use Metal Supermarket for most of my stuff. They are usually pretty cheap and are right down the road from me. They quoted $1449 for 100ft of it. I about fell out of my chair. Right now, Race City Steel and Ryerson have the cheapest prices, between 4.48 and 4.50 a foot.

Thanks guys.

All the steel places around here keep supply house hours, and they're all cash and carry, so no difference there. Somebody like Dillon will beat metal supermarkets on full pieces all day long, but won't sell you a partial. That's really their niche.

If you're buying DOM, Stock Car Steel & Race City have the best prices.

As mentioned above, Dillon has good prices for standard stuff like square tube and plate.

For small jobs I use metal super markets because I can buy it by the foot and they have drop racks.

These are the prices, as of yesterday, for 100ft of 1 3/4" x.120 wall DOM

Metal Supermarket - $1,449.60
Stock Car Steel - $5.31 a ft so $531
Race City - $4.48 a ft so $448
Ryerson - $4.50 a ft so $450
Alro - $521.24

@Buffy I've already reached out to Will, hes checking for me.

I wouldn’t discount Dillon Supply either. My last metal purchase was via Dillon Supply because they were cheaper than the rest besides Ryerson. But Ryerson wanted me to set up an account even with paying via CC and wanted me to pick up from their distribution warehouse 2 hours away.

@rockcity just called Dillon and was informed that they only care square and rectangle tubing, no round/DOM tubing at all. Guy referred me to a couple of other places and then hung up...

That’s odd. I bought tube from the one in Greenville and Goldsboro. Of course they had to order it as not many people stock it like structural shapes.
