Check your Auto Insurance Rates, folks.

Funny how this thread pops up right when State Farm decided to cede out my liability to the state causing my rate to go from $247/month to $284. Just checked with Nationwide ($202/month) and Progressive Direct ($98/month). Still checking to see whats out there.

‘Cede’ is that how you spell it. See my accident thread. State Farm did that to me, got in an accident, surprise...I only have liability. I was trying to google it and only got turf references for ‘strip and seed’...haha.

Yeah, I had SF email an explanation because it made no damn sense on the phone. I still have full coverage, just paying more. Well they want me too, I'll be cancelling after I find a new company.

Usually takes me a few hours to shop cars, houses , garage keepers etc. I seem to switch every couple of years. Yes it's a pain to shop it, but is a few hours worth hundreds of dollars to you? It is to me. After reading through this I have no clue how USAA keeps rolling along. Everyone I know who was with them isn't anymore due to cost. Insurance is a freaking racket it's the best stuff going when they're selling it but most of the times blows when you need it.

list your jeeps/toys as "low mileage per month" and really watch it drop. costs me dang near nothing to insure my rigs

I've had libMut for about eight or ten years I think.. claims against me for minor at faultfaccidents, insurance is still <700 a year, just liability. Two vehicles. Two drivers. Payments 67/mo March-November, so it's actually about $603/yr

Shop it every year.

Don't do it to much. Eventually you will be come uninsurable.
This happened to an employer of mine who insisted on shopping around every year for employee benefit insurance.
When quotes started coming back drastically higher he started asking questions
They said it was to make him worth their trouble since he called every year.

We had been with USAA for a awhile. Switched to Amica 2 years ago.

Had no idea they were so high...did an informal inquiry into a refi and while we were talking the mortgage dude mentioned that I ought to check around because our home insurance sounded high.

So I did and was shocked.

Edit: Now that I'm thinking on it, before USAA I was with Allstate for a long time. Found out they were high....saved literally half by switching to USAA.

Allstate service was great, but a thousand bucks is a thousand bucks.

Yep... Those companies deny most everything. Farm Bureau is good until you actually file a claim. 2 claims, regardless of pay out, and they will usually drop you. Good friend was an agent with them for almost a decade and finally got sick of cancelling long term customers over minor claims.

They might send me a letter tomorrow dropping me, but I have had several claims on both home and auto, no problems with FB yet. My parents have all of their insurance with FB, both personal and business, and have for as long as I can remember. Dozens of claims, no issues. I've only found one company that can beat FB, but it's not by enough to justify losing the service I get with my FB agent.

Been with USAA for a long time now. I've never had an issue with them and any claims I've had as been straightforward with no B.S. Got rear-ended a few years ago and the truck went to the shop. They gave me sedan to drive. I told them I needed a truck for work. 30 mins later I was driving a truck. I'm right at 160 a month for full coverage on my 07 Tundra, 15 Grand Cherokee and the Willys. I've heard horror stories about USAA but have never had an issue with them, neither has my dad.

I've never had FB, so I only speak from what customers tell me and what a friend who used to be an agent said. You guys having such large accounts may get different treatment. (I know Allstate will make exceptions for big customers to save them from leaving)
Can't say a thing bad about FB unless they cancel you. Seems to be excellent coverage from most folks opinions. Just have a lot of people call in and come in stating FB is cancelling them for their 2nd claim etc...

So shopped our insurance with an insurance broker since my wreck. She’s the wife of a buddy and my old FB agent. Majority of my stuff was with FB, except the wife’s car for the better part of the last decade. She shopped me around WITH a fresh accident on my record...with as good or better coverage as I had, everything is coming back $20-50 cheaper than I was paying per month before the wreck, with Cincinatti being the cheapest. Cincinatti covers the assets at work, and I have no complaints so far. Anyone used them personally???

Wait until you guys with Direct, Progressive, Gieco, etc ..... have a claim.
Then you will see why they are so cheap.
They deny everything.
Screw everyone.
Even their own customers.
IMHO, a bundle with Farm Bureau is as good as it gets and a company that actually works for yous

Not my experience with Farm at all, Had a customer back in to my parked Truck , she tried to drive off but once seen me running after her she stopped. they came out looked at truck 8 days after i reported to her Insurance (FB) the quoted me $1500 for bumper and brackets.
total cost for OEM bumper, brackets , bolts , misc parts was over $2200. Farm said to bad "we use cheapest parts not OEM" If i wanted fixed with OEM from ford I had to pay.
Me and lady both where Farm customers I cancelled that same week

SON OF A B!$^&!!

I've been with State Farm for damn near 20 years or more. On Moving down here to Florida I knew my rates were going to be higher but damn! I just had a quote from SF on a house that we're under contract on and it was $4K/year! I read this thread and just went out to shop around. Progressive won't insure for some reason. I'm guessing the pool. But Geico was $2K/year. I'm double checking that it's apples to apples from the information I input, but DAMN!

I'm about ready to give SF the Finger on all of my insurance.

1) pay it once a year, so you only have to cry once
2) or escrow the premium with your mortgage...so you kinda sorta forget about it and you're just paying your house note.

I think some of that depends on the office/location/region.
We had the same situation ..... they bent over backwards to help us.

Our first homeowners claim is coming this week as a result of the 12" of snow and a collapsed carport and damaged camper ...... we'll see what happens.

With mainline insurance companies like Nationwide, State Farm, etc. the agent and office make as much difference as anything when it comes to service and such.
Maybe not price.
I had SF for years with agent James Enscore on Waughtown St. in Winston Salem. Never had much trouble.
If we did, a call the the office and they handled it.
Once he retired, we fought with them constantly until I walked into the agents office I was transferred to and told him to his face he sucked, SF sucked, and I was leaving and would never have their insurance again and made them write me a prorate check on the spot.

Four years later, I just changed my insurance again last week.

At my renewal, Progressive was going to go up $45 a month for no reason that I could discern.

I checked around, switched to Geico, and saved about $600 a year. Turned out to be a little cheaper than what I had been paying with Progressive for the same coverage.

Yay.
