Choccolocco Mountain 3-8-19

I also just noticed my timeline is off. I'll go back and fix it at some point today.

Lunch time on the hill. As I brought up to my trail mates, ever notice how no one eats at the bottom of a trail? For some reason we always eat on top of the mountain. Food for thought.

During our break, Jody needed an additional horsepower to make things right under the hood.

Aaron also got some assistance. We'd discussed some new bump stops for him. Gaystar products makes a sweet alternative so he thought he'd try it out.

So we headed back to the Playground to let everyone try new things.

As Jody mentioned before we went towards another red line trail. Terminator and Chainsaw. I had nothing for it and I knew it. I backed away gracefully and allowed Jody to show us how the big kids did it.

I decided the best place for me was next door on Chainsaw. I figured if I could get the tires hot enough they'd stick. Too bad my radiator had other plans. At 240° I had to tap out.

Next up was Aaron. You knew something fun was about to happen when all four tires are off the ground!

As you can see, he sheared off all the heads on the bolts.

Next up Tony, gave it a stab. Sorry the video was so short. I walked up there to spot and on the next attempt something happened.

So we headed back to the parking lot for a repair break.

Aaron headed into town and go new bolts while we jacked his rig up and got it ready. Tony already started tearing his down and swapping in his spare set. Tony is a gentleman. Therefore, proper etiquette must be used at all times. Good show, old man.

Aaron got back from town with bolts. Some slight modification was necessary. You'll get that on those big jobs.

Back at it and back up the mountain. We headed back to Hell's Revenge for some more fun.

I would have gotten a video of Aaron doing the V-notch but by the time I got the camera out he already cleared it :rolleyes: Not much to add beyond that. We cleared it with ease and proceeded to watch Aaron attempt Showtime.

I'll be honest, online the bouncers make things look not so bad. However, in person you quickly realize these guys are crazy as :poop:
 
We then started to wonder about the weather. Loud booms in the distance only meant one thing. Thunderstorms and high winds. The original plan was to hit Morris Mountain on Sunday for the Coup de Gras so we decided we better take it easy. Off to the left was Cherry Bomb. Fun trail and not too bad for the kids.

After this one, it started to rain. We all suited up in our gear where exactly 20 minutes later it stopped. We dodged the weather bullet once again!

The last trail we ran was one I can't remember the name to. It was steep and slick with the brief rain we had. Jody lead the charge and made things look doable until of course I tried. My overheating woes got me again at the top and I had to pull some cable. Tony blasted out the top like he does..... and that's a wrap.

We took the Rubicon trail out the rest of the way and headed back to the trailers.
 
We awoke Sunday morning to find the rain drizzling on all of us. We decided to call it at that point. These trails are tough and you need as much traction as you can get. We learned late in the day even with a little moisture they can turn quick. I think we were all a little disappointed we couldn't get to the next park but I think it was the right call. The plan next time is to make it down Thursday night and ride Chocco and Morris mountain in the same weekend. I was very happy to be out there with my friends and making memories. If you go I think you'll see what we saw. A big park with lots of options and levels for everyone. The people down there said it doesn't get ridden much. I find that surprising. It was the best $30 I'd spent in a while. We basically had the place to ourselves. I would definitely put it on your list.
 
Great write-up.

Despite having capable enough rigs not to take pictures, you took enough and video to know it's a place I want to go for sure

I always take a lot of pictures and video. Some people don't like to. However, I don't think I've ever found someone who doesn't appreciate pics or videos of their rigs. I can remember some stuff but I like looking back and seeing how trails changed or how my rig changed over the years or at least remind myself of "that one time".
 
I've been to Morris Mountain, Choccolocco has always been on my radar but its a long haul for me through Atlanta.... I hate Atlanta..... This however makes me want to go at some point....
