swaping an 85 cj7 tub with 78 tub. any pointers on the prep work? thanks
if you have hard/soft doors the latch mechanism will probably be different on the 78 tub. also the 78 will have rear side marker/turn signal lights while the 85 will be wired up with the rear turn signals integrated into the stop light assembly. i am not 100% sure but the fuel tank filler hose may also need to be adjusted. hope some of this helps
The fuel filler cutout should be the same from 78-86, a rectangle with ~1" rounded corners.
The 79 rollbar sits completely on the fenderwells, the later models B-pillar bar is just in front of the fenderwells, all the way to the floor. I'm not sure if the fenderwell holes line up, never thought to check it out.
An other area to compare is the tranny tunnel cover/cutout, I think they were different. The 78 had a D20, 85 was a D300. The transmissions were different too
Check the hole for the bulkhead connector. I bet the 78 has the glass cylinder fuses while the 80s has the blades, not sure if the connector changed shape.
Good time to do the blazer heater motor upgrade, it requires a slightly larger hole in the tub.
He will be fine he bought hard doors from me, 76-79 style doors
