"Clean" Area in your shop?

I need a designated clean area in my shop where I can store goggles, cleaning cloths, etc., to keep them away from grinding dust, and crap in general.
What is y'all's approach to this?

Ideally, I kind of like what @MarsFab (I think it was him) is doing, in making a "dirty room" in his shop

A room separate for grinding, bench welding, etc that you can close the door too and make an absolute mess, and the rest of the shop stays "cleaner"

Of course you could do the opposite and have a "clean room" as well. Where you frame a small area (preferably a tumor off the side of the building to limit infiltration) with an attic, or exterior door with a seal so paint, dust, debris doesn't get in.

You're close(not really). You are thinking about Matt Cuttler @mcutler

If you dont want to build an entire addition... ....anything that is watertight will keep dust out.
Whether that's a boat tote or similar.

Quite honestly, this sounds crazy, but we have an old busted yeti cooler that our dust degrade dry storage is in and it works great for the job..

If I want something to stay clean, I just leave it outside :D

I put i a 20x20 room for most of my welding, grinding, etc. Aside from dust getting out, I want to restrict flammable from getting in that part if the shop....cardboard, sawdust, paint cans, erc.

This.
A buddy makes knives in his home shop. He put up plastic sheeting and that thick clear poly 4"wide strip stuff you can walk through in a 10x10 corner. Thats where he does all the dirty work. Keeps everything else decent.

I'm not so fancy, and use tool boxes and cabinets.

I knew it was ONE of those guys with more talent, skill, and brains than I'll ever have :huggy:

Old, non-working refrigerator?
Hope you like mold.

My uncle had a great idea to put nuts and bolts in an old fridge. He left it AS-is and put it in his conditioned basement next to his work bench (unplugged of course). It was well organized and neat. Then he got a little old a decrepit. Hadn't really worked much in the basement in years. My aunt asked me to come over and help rid them of some junk. Drove the dumptruck over and started chucking. I remembered the old fridge and made the mistake of opening it to see if he had any good bolts. :handed:

It was good and fuzzy inside, but I only got a brief glimpse...as the smell was so bad it caused instant eye watering and gagging. We had to open the garage door and let the basement air out for hours.

If you ever want to use an old fridge, take at LEAST the bottom portion of weather stripping out for SOME air circulation. That or keep it plugged up and everything stays cold :huggy:

Yep new dirty room for me, about 350ft². All grinding and dust will be in there. Only thing in the main shop is welding and bending- there will be a band saw and lathe in main, but they both have chip trays.

Is his name Dexter?

You could build a room inside the shop and the roof of the room be a mezzanine for storage. Then gets small fan and duct with a good sealed filter pulling air from the shop pushing into the clean room creating a clean airflow pushing any dirty air out of the clean area.

In my Jeep. Since I am a welder/fabricator at work and on my free time, I use the same PPE constantly. I'll carry safety glasses, gloves, calipers, angle finders, squares, welding hood, whatever around until I need them. There's no fuckin telling when. Could be 8-5, could be 3am. If it's in my Jeep, it's safe.

An old cabinet. It's not glamorous but it works.
Exactly what I did, had 2 welding helmets get full of dust and or animal stuff. Among a few other things I wanted to keep decent.

$80 ea and they were 6miles from the house

This is probably my application. All replys are great but I'm not adding on to my shop and I have very limited available room for cabinetry. I would possibly weatherstrip it it and make the doors shut tight. Hope I actually do it! lol

My shop (1500 sqft) has a 100 sqft office that I keep things in that need to stay clean. It's sealed off pretty well from the work area. Still reeks of gear lube though.
My pisser on the other hand...it looks like bathroom from the movie Saw. I had a guy with diverticulitis pick up a TJ last week that needed to take a dook. Took one look and said he could make it to the gas station.

I christened this today... maybe since I'm the only user, I can keep it looking good.

Not sure how I feel about it though.. Been using a bucket and handicap toilet, in front of the tv or computer, ashtray, coffee cup in hand, for some time now... it will be an adjustment [emoji28].

This man speaks truth. Never seen anything quite like the Treadway shitter. Gears are doing great though Jody, thanks again.

Can't you use your office? maybe seal it off a little better. Might be out of they way to get things while you are working, but seems logical to me. Not really sure what you use it for at this point. Even just a steel upright cabinet in it, I don't imagine much would get inside the cabinet inside the office with the door shut.
