Hey yall,
Just curious ....last time we were at URE, I was lookin at kodak rock (the actual ledge) and decided not to attempt it ...even though I've pawed up it a half dozen times in the past couple years. It seemed like it was a foot higher than last year.
What kinda rigs are making it over the ledge this year?

last time i was there my group got a yj on 36s and a 4runner on 37s over. most of the group was smaller than that and didnt attempt it but with a good wheel base i think it could be done on 33s and am %99 sure it could be done on 35s.

ive seen a zj almost make it on 35s all that stopped him was the 9in shaft spun inside the locker so he quit and went back to camp, he would have had it other wise. now i dont know about the big face but the rest of kodak can be walked over with a locker and 33s.

I think it gets more difficult as the bottom of the big face gets more and more dug out.

And I swear the "big rock" in the middle (the one you used to go to the right of) has either broken or been moved or something.

I'm askin about the big ledge , because it looked a foot taller than last year.

I had doubts that my 94 inch wheelbase would get the job done

Neither of those videos are Kodak Rock. They're near Kodak, though... the original Kodak rock looks like it might be at the edge of the frame at the end of the 2nd video.

Sidebar discussion:

When I started going to Uwharrie,(about 2000) that rock was called Kodiak rock by everyone who ever mentioned it? It was also only about 2.5-3' tall. I never heard anyone refer to it as Kodak until NC4x4 came along.

I still call it Kodiak, because for one, that is a way more bad ass name, and two, because it is a more apt name for an obstacle, and three, because I'm still pretty sure that is the name :flipoff2:

And besides, if any rock needed to be named Kodak because of all the pictures taken, it should be that dumbass rock on slab pile(or wherever) that everyone pulls up on, but very very few have actually tried to drive over.

That is "Poser Rock" haha

I climbed it 3 weeks ago and thought it was steeper than last year.

37"s on a 100" wheelbase for reference:

Yep. So is the lower section what people are calling budweiser now? Pretty crazy the old obstacle(Kodiak) has just become the footnote at the end of another obstacle these days.

Ok. Got ya. Did that ittle sport after the first video I posted but didnt get that part on video. We always thought the lower section was the harder part. Never thought much of actual Kodak rock.

when i first started wheeling, it was Kodiak. and over time it just evolved (or devolved depending on how ya look at it) to Kodak.

I think the trend of calling it "kodak" started on youtube. there was a series of videos calling it that...then thats what you started hearing it called on the trails.

That's Kodak rock. And it used to be the only obstacle over there. The stuff lower down the hill didn't exist back then. The name morphed into "Kodiak" later.

When did this rock "pop up"? Like I said, i remember it being called Kodiak back in 2000, when it was a small obstacle, it couldn't have been around for that many years at that point. It was another 5 years or more until I ever heard anyone call it Kodak??

"Kodiak" til the day I die :flipoff2:
