CO2 On Board Air

The one I use is from Sears. It wasn't the cheapest (I think around $25), but I figured it would hold up better than others and it has, so far. It's a small, black coiled (looks like a spring) hose, but it's a heavier rubber than the cheap yellow hoses you see everywhere.
I couldn't find it on Sears.com, but it looks similar to this only not the pretty blue color.
Jeff

I had the blue one, and it's the one that split, first use.

RICH
I JUST RUN A STANDARD AIRLINE, RATED FOR 350PSI WITH QUICK CONNECT IN THE REGULATOR. I'VE NOT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE HOSE, BUT MY QUICK CONNECT IS LEAKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED NOW. IS YOUR CO2 TANK MOUNTED UPRIGHT.CO2 IS A LIQUID IN THE TANK. IF IT IS ON ITS SIDE IT WOULD PUSH THE LIQUID OUT AND COULD FREEZE YOR LINE CAUSING IT TO SPLIT. ANOTHER THING IS MAKE SURE YOUR TANK DOESN'T HAVE A SIPHON TUBE IN IT,(VERY UNCOMMON ON SMALLER SIZE CYLINDERS) BUT SIPHON TUBES ARE DESIGNED TO DRAW LIQUID OUT.

RATLABGUY
ON YOUR MEDICAL REG. CHECK WHAT THE DELIVERY PRESSURE IS. OFTEN IN LAB. SETTINGS PSI DELIVERIES ARE VERY LOW. OTHER THAN THAT IT IS MOST LIKLY TWO STAGE AND MAY HAVE S.S. DIAPHRAGMS. SS WILL OUTLAST THE RUBBER/NEOPRENE DIAPHRAGMS IN CHEEPER REGS.
IF I REMEMBER THE CONVERSION FACTOR 5# LIQUID CO2 IS A LITTLE MORE THAN 40CU. FT. THE ADVANTAGE TO CO2 IS THAT AS A LIQUID THE TANK REMAINS AT 880 PSI UNTIL ALL THE LIQUID HAS CONVERTED TO VAPOR. A 40 CU. FT. NITROGEN IS LARGER TANK AND THE PRESSURE STARTS AT 2000-2400PSI
AND DROPS DOWN AS THE GAS IS USED.
ANOTHER ADVANTAGE IS YOU CAN OFTEN FIND ALUMINUM TANKS FOR CO2 AND SAVE WEIGHT TOO.

Problem is (besides the caps lock), standard airline takes up waaaaay too much space.

And yes, the tank is always vertical when being used. Gimme a little credit here.

This regulator and gauge dosn't have any specs left on it, the label was worn off long ago. However we use the big-ass 5' tanks (what, 100#?) that are really cranked up to like 3,000 psi. The canister for the reg is *huge*, at least the size of my fist, with a worm-gear style release knob on it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and bet that it can handle the pressure.
I dropped by a buddy's and we tested it out on his 5# tank he uses for his beer kergerator, fits just right. Does leak at the input connection though, I assume it needs soem kind of o-ring or subber seal in there? Nothing in it right now.

Mine has a little teflon looking disc in there..

CO2 WILL USE A WASHER. CAN BE MADE FROM MANY DIFFRENT MATERIALS (TEFLON,PLASTIC & SOME KIND OF BLACK FIBERBOARD MATERIAL) SHOULD BE EASY TO PICK UP FROM WELDING SUPPLY OR BEVERAGE DIST. IF YOUR GOING TO THE ROCK RACES AT DPG, I KEEP A FEW SPARES I'LL BE HAPPY TO GIVE YOU ONE OR TWO.

I use a 4b's cylinder bracket. I think it's the th-109 it fits the 20# co2 cylinders. They run around $30.00. Should be able to get one from your local welding supply.
