Looking for suggestions for both. All my vehicles are getting tired and old.
Got a Chrysler throwing codes and a Ford Ranger. Looking for a good do all. Maybe even for my lap top.

Thanks

@ckruzer had some for sale awhile back.. most any obd2 reader will work. I've got a expensive older Mac scanner that is a rebadged actron. Really any of the cheap scanner with live data view is about as good as you get without spending big money. Well the ms908 would be a upgrade, but it's still $2000

Even Transmission codes?? These are the codes most seem to not read.

$20 will get you a wireless OBD2 reader. I got one off amazon and use free apps on my iPhone.

Depending how far you are from rutherfordton, stop by and I'll hook up my Maxisys to them.
Your about 1 and a half up the road from where they are parked.

@a_kelley . Thanks for the offer. I would tow it too you before coming that far. I fear burning something up if it's not just a faulty sensor.

Have you or anybody else used a Launch CRP123?

A really good friend and Ford Master tech recommended the brand and type.

He would be my go to if he wasn't always covered up. I also want the ability to diagnose some myself. All my vehicles are at least 10 years old. This one has the fewest miles at 123k.

My buddy has one of those launch units. It's got slightly more features than the actron unit. It should work for you. Somewhat counter intuitive to use.

The CRP123 is a good bang for your buck unit but you might want to check on Launch's newest product that kind replaces the 123. It's called the MDM90 pro and just came out.

Perfect I'm always assbackwards anyway.

So I decided to gift myself a Launch code reader.
Opted for a x-143pro. Neat product based on what appears to be an android tablet. Got a bunch of vehicle specific attachments and a very nice case.

So far:
Accessed transmission codes on a 96 Ranger.
On a 2006 Pacifica I have...tracked down a wheel speed sensor, ABS. And test all the function independently on that system.
Manually tested Evap circuits.
Manually testest some oxygen sensor parameters.
Reset or relearned a crank sensor which previous mechanic didn't do.
And best of all reduced the dash back down to something other than a warning light Christmas tree.

It does well more than I can use right now. Learning a bunch of new stuff has been fun. Whatching live data on multiple layer while driving is cool as crap. Saving and down loading graphs and play by play is even cooler. Gonna learn next the tech to tech feature when I locate a willing Launch user.
