Been a WVU fan since I can remember. Born and raised in southern WV. Wanted to attend WVU but parents could not afford it so I went to a cheaper Collage close to home.
"Go Mountaineers"

i am a WVU to and grow up in wv but we couldnt afford it either so i just didnt go to college i ended up dropin out of high school to work

Grew up a BAMA fan and went to school there for a time.

I graduated from a small D-III school in upstate NY, so I tend not to get all wrapped up in their sports. I've been lifelong Penn State fan. Mom and Dad met at Penn State, so I credit that institution with my life. Saw my first live football game at Penn State and went to games with Dad and 100,000 of our closest friends every weekend until I started playing football on Saturdays. Dad's the alumni association president back where I grew up, so when I need tickets nowadays, they're just a phone call away. I proudly fly the PSU flag in front of my house from late August to early January every year.
As for basketball, we lived 1.5 hours south of Syracuse, where my Dad got his grad degree, so I'm root for them. Growing up, I spent football season going to Penn State games and basketball season making runs up to the Dome to watch the Orangemen. Still, I'm way more diehard about my Penn State football.
At a recent game with my wife...

Clemson Alum and played football there as well.

This is a pet peeve of mine on some levels. I spend a fair amount of time on fan boards such as rivals, scout et.al.

And what I have noticed almost universally for every school is the loudest critic, and most obnoxious bashers generally A) never went to the school in question B) tend to post a lot when "their" team is playing. Makes me wonder how big of a fan you are if you never attend a game.

So its not ok to be a fan of a team, If you didn't attend the college?

I am a UNC fan, I watch 90% of there games (Basketball) because I am a fan of college basketball, Can't stand the NBA. My dad was a big UNC fan, So growing up thats what I watched and cheered for, Been to a few games, Attended some VIP player meetings. But never attended the College.

As for football, I am not a college football fan. I prefer the NFL over the BCS. I am a Carolina fan and have been since they entered the league. I attended the Super Bowl when they went. When I lived in Charlotte I was at almost all the home games, even a few road games.

That being said I don't see how I am any less a Tarheel fan than a Panther fan because I attended one but not the other.

I mean I am a fan of Jeep but I never worked for them.

But I do agree there is a Difference between being a fan and a fanatic, I would not say I am fanatic for reasons you posted. But I do believe I have the right to be a fan of what ever team I choose.

Maybe you mis took what I said, or maybe I just said it poorly.
You are free in my eyes to be a fan of whomever you choose. I was simply stating that I find most of the obnoxious fans are not affiliated with their chosen team. Alums generally tone down the obnoxious level out of the realization that they reflect poorly on their university.

I really hate when people refer to the team as "us" or "we" when they havent played...

"Yeah, WE looked really good today", said while sitting on your couch drinking a beer....

Well then, I agree with you totally.

x eleventy-billion. I learned from my Dad in my younger years as we walked through campus on gamedays. He'd always make a point to tell people wearing gear from the opponent that weekend to enjoy their visit to Penn State, but hopefully not too much with a wink. And he'd help them with recommendations on places to eat or attractions to see. He felt and still feels like an ambassador of his university. You don't see that quite as much nowadays.

I went to nascar tech in mooresville so no college sports for me unless u count beer pong & other drinking games lol. But i've been a life long fan of the university of texas

Yep!
My son has picked up on my tradition of every visitor I see in Clemson, I tell them I hope they have a great time, enjoy their stay and have a safe and unhappy trip home.

I dont have a favorite college team..but I do love to watch college football.

I always pull for the team that is behind. Then when they score, I pull for the other team. Kind of wierd , huh?

By far the best sports to watch is college football. I always pull for the underdog..unless they are winning, then like I said above, I pull for the team that is behind.

If two teams I don't really care about are playing I do the same. I always find myself favoring one team towards the end though. Not sure why.
