Computer hackers who create viruses should have their hands cut off and laid in front of them, and their dicks cut off and shoved in their mouth. Then they can sit on the ground and bleed to death.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess you've been hacked. Amirite?

Let me guess Vista Security 2012 ?

If so R Kill and malware bytes will take care of it .

I had this last week, I managed to go into safe mode and download a free version of avg and got rid of it. the virus is a bitch and want let you do anything. I could not go f8 and get into safe mode, i took my battery out and in the middle of running unpluged it from power source. i got lucky and it started back in safe mode long enough to do an avg download. (I GOT LUCKY) for I am def not a computer whiz. The avg did real well and got it gone quick.

Yea that attached itself to my OS one time.. Cept if was for XP (since I dont have 7).. Was this the virus where it looks like a virus protection but really it is the virus and wont let you do anything unless you enter the "activation code" - which also doesnt work?

I just reformatted my hard drive with a new OS. My comp needed a refresher anyways.

If it's Windows 7, it should be a pretty easy fix. If you have an OEM recovery partition, you should be able to boot into that and roll back the install to a known-good configuration. If you have a Win7 install disc, same thing, but you can go directly into the Win7 system recovery console.

If you can get it to boot, the system recovery tool is in the control panel. It'll show you a list of previous states, and you pick the one you want.

Good point Shawn - I was able to do this in safe mode and recover my computer to a previously working state..

Yes, that is the one!

Just had this happen yesterday, system restore got me back up and running, then ran rkill, avg, and downloaded microsoft security essentials (highly recommened from our IT guy at the FD) and ran that. So far so good.

As advised, do a system restore from an earlier DTG known working point. Download the free version of Malwarebytes-Anti Malware software and download the updates for it. Good luck, but you are much too kind when it comes to hackers. Low life scum that get off by making people lives miserable and doing it in a low life cowardly way by hiding behind a keyboard.

Get a Mac, they just work.

was waiting for someone to say it

MAC has there own issues as well,

I have a 2yo Mac Book Air that has eaten 3 hard drives, third one just last Sunday. It will remain DOA, hinge is broken, screen is doing funky things and has lost color.

previous iBook G4 went 6yrs before horrifically tragic and untimely Lemonade incident ( the magic smoke escaped )

Mac Mini chugging along nicely, though I need to get a new keyboard.....

and don't brag on MAC too much, they are becoming targets as well, it won't be long before there is a real threat

That worked! Thanks! I owe you a case of beer, LOL!

Danny lay off the porn sites!

I got it when I download Skype so I could point the computer at the TV so my daughter could watch the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game (NFL Package). Which is kinda funny because she lives just outside of Tampa, the game was blacked out. I am a big Bucs fan but kinda deserved it for trying to transmit such garbage over the air. Different rant, but damn they are awful and painful to watch.

Actually, current consensus in the security world is that OSX is, best case, at least as secure as Win7. Worst case, it's much less secure. There have been a number of demonstrated vulnerabilities, including the typical visit-a-website-and-execute-remote-code type.

The biggest advantage OSX has is a small installed base. That makes it a less-profitable target. But with OSX market share increasing in the last few years, that's becoming less true.

The other (BIG!) problem that OSX has is that most users incorrectly think that they're virus-proof. That's the biggest vulnerability of all.

Danny -- glad to know the recovery console was able to fix it. That thing is awesome... I've used it for everything from uninstalling software to rolling back drivers. It's pretty neat.

How are you all getting this virus?

For the last week my history has been NC4x4, Pirate4x4, Hotmail, Facebook, ebay, and my banks website. Yesterday when the virus took control of my computer I was on NC4x4.
