Computer virus writers need to be strung up by their ballsack

If I ever meet a guy who says he created a computer virus I will crush his head like a ripe melon.

Yesterday I was at work, not working, looking for a par 3 golf course. I get on Google Maps, find one, and click their webpage link in the Google Maps webpage. Immediately my computer goes fucking bananas with the antivirus, so I reach over and unplug my computer from the network and start running my antivirus and everything. Within 10 minutes my computer is encrypted and I can't do shit, fucking ransomware shit has it all locked up. I reboot, find my way to the registry and delete all the shit that is preventing it from running, go in and find the virus program, and clean off all the bullshit so my computer is functioning again. Now all my pictures, excel files, everything is encrypted. Of course, this is a new virus that no one has cracked yet so I just have to wait till someone has a solution before I can get any of my files back.

Now, if I was going to some nefarious webpages or looking at porn and this happened, I'd accept at least some responsibility, but this was some stupid link in Google Maps. Be careful people, even the clean areas are sometimes dirty.

Fuck those assholes, I hope they all die a slow painful death.

I had the same thing happen to my work computer several years ago from a shared thumb drive.

Now, I only receive via email with a virus scan before.

I agree! They should have a rope tied around their ball sack, then be drug down road by a car until they die.

What antivirus software does everyone recommend?

Fuck a Mac. I am a CAD guy.

I have Trend Micro and it works very well, but yesterday morning there was a Windows Update that for some reason disabled the live protection. It happens occasionally with Windows Updates, I just forgot to check it yesterday, of course.

Just admit it, you were surfing p0rn. We know, and it's ok.

Good luck, hope their tool works.

I just retired from fixing computers. Made a heck of a lot of money from a) viruses and malware and b) microsoft updates screwing things up.

Woohoo, Kapersky has a decrypter that they came out with today. Hopefully it works! Running it on my machine now.
Happy for you - but I just gotta say, their encryption scheme must be pretty lame if it can be cracked that easily.

If you think people that write virus' and malware are bad, try going to the Blackhat show at the Mandalay Bay. Those fools are ruthless. Apparently last year there was a wall of shame. If you were on any nearby network and someone cracked your stuff they would search then air your "dirty laundry" on a huge screen for all to see. Last I heard, someone shut down the whole reservation network and the main building power for a few minutes at the hotel as well.

Yes blackhat is ruthless. It is recommend for attendees to get a burner phone and use cash during the conference. Don't check your bank account while there also.

My part time job is keeping our RHEL server from getting hacked by some 13 yo kid. :shaking:

M<y part time job is keeping asshats from getting computer viruses on their work computers. The guys at work REALLY enjoyed Friday......

Hate you. Want to buy some training? Come on. Help my actual group out :burnout:.

Somebody's going to have to buy a whole lot of little orange diamonds before there's enough money in the bank to pay some Red Hatter to tell me how to rm -rf

Son of a bitch, I got another one.

Word of advice, if you open a webpage that is just a blank or mostly blank gray screen. You are probably fucked. I was trying to find a 16ohm intercom speaker for the office and the webpage someone sent me was infected. Caught it before any real damage was done, but dammit......

hhhmmm, sounds suspicious to me. I suspect this guy as a potential culprit.

Yeah, but who makes the *most* money? Norton, Kaspersky,....

Constantly fighting virus and malware is one of the reasons I decided to get out. 30 years ago, it was all about designing systems and putting in new equipment. 15 years ago, the business was all about upgrades and enhancements to systems, networks, internet, etc. Clients were always better off when you left (and got paid).

The past few years, the computer industry has turned into break/fix service. Most folks (especially the budget people) are happy with the way things are (speed, capacity, etc) and are not pushing to upgrade. More folks screwing around on the internet while at work, too, bringing more viruses and malware. Now, you go on a client site, fix a virus, remove malware, get them working again....and nothing has really improved from last week, it just works now (temporarily). Clients pay, but they're not as happy about it.
