I watched a show a couple of weeks ago on the Science channel I believe it was that talked about this.

So Marty McFly was a genius after all? I'm off to find me a Delorean

Probably just another piece to a big puzzle that will never be solved. This theory will be out dated as old science by the next one then that one by the next one and so on.

Or we get a visit from someone in the future who comes back to take out jobs because the future is so bleak!

in most cases in science yes.

but the thing about this one.....is that the speed of light was supposed to be static. No one ever thought that we could break that barrier.

this is huge news.

But....now, it means it is possible to send information into the past.
anyone remember the movie 12 monkeys?
How do we know this?

Agreed but the same type of thing was though about a moving object going faster then the speed of sound. Many thought it couldn't be done, that physics wouldn't allow it. That the object would just implode. So nothing really surprises me because we still know nothing really.

where is that info from?

How do we know this?

retro-causality. where the effect, happens before the cause.

this one is a big deal in science too.

and, if that doesnt blow your mind....

we have also nailed down the mechanics behind teleportation, at the information level of course, we can stimulate one photon (thats been paired) in one place, and the response will be seen be seen on its pair in another place.

Way back when they said that if a man went faster than a 40 MPH he would disintegrate. Guess this is the same thing on a much larger scale.

Scientific research that was still believed by many as recent as the 1940's. The label "Sound Barrier" itself comes from early scientific research that lead many to believe that the speed of sound was a "barrier" that could not be surpassed. Chuck Yeager and the X-1 program finally and officially proved that an aircraft could break the sound barrier. It is believed that the WWII German jet powered Messerschmidt 262 was the first to do it. I think that is what the plane was called. I am out and about using my DROID now which is a pain to use for research.

you re speaking from an aeronautical point of view. the ability to fly a plane beyond the speed of sound. there were issues to overcome, but no one thought it was impossible.

It's not my opinion. It's the writings of the scientists who thought that. Doesn't really matter to me. If you are interested, and have not done so yet, read up on the X-1 program and Chuck Yeager. Very interesting stuff. Me I think I'm gonna drink some beer.
