Coyote Problems...

Whoa!!! Little furball bit the dust!!

in aalska a heard they freeze bloody knives and they will lick it until they bleed to death. thats a bad way to go....um thats good, oh that hurts, um thats good, uh that hurts........thud

18" a 3" strips of burlap soaked in cows blood. Hang it on a fence and the coyotes eat it but cant shit it out. Eventually plays hell on their insides. Not a pretty way to kill an animal but coyotes dont fall into that catagory IMO.

I shot 3 in 2005. Started hanging burlap and didnt see a single one last year.

We see these varmits every year hunting turkeys. We shot 2 in one wk last year in SC. Get longbeards every year but when a coyote comes in at the same time he's gonna get it. Never used to see them in PA but in 5 days of hunting last spring we saw 8, too bad none of them got close. Can't wait to see what happens this year.
I like the burlap method!;)

I still look forward to huntin a few!!

Order yerself a RoadRunner.
That'll keep 'em busy and away from the pigs.
Then all you need is a canyon or two.

This thread is great! You can get a Great Pironese (sp?) dog. Big white dog. Looks kinda like a St Bernard only white. They will kill a pack of coyotes by themself. All the sheep hearders out west have them. They blend in with the sheep and will protect them.

Though the roadrunner idea is pretty good too.

every time I find a black snake in the yard and I drop it over into the neighbor's yard, I hear squirmish chickens hollering a short time later

I WISH it was that easy but we don't have yards over here and they are more like "free-range" roosters.

Between the roosters, hunting dogs, and the low flying planes coming and going from Pope, living out in the country ain't all it's cracked up to be.....

Very true. We had a Great pyreneese that passed 2 yrs ago. Best dog I'd ever had and would die to proctect me and family if needed. Only prob is you cannot contain them. They like to roam about a 2 mile radius from theyre home. Did I mention they cannot be contained?? I spent thousands trying to. Still miss that stubborn ass dog. SB

Dude I will bring guns for myself and up to 10 of your friends for a coyote killing.

I hate those damn things.
I killed 4 last year down at G-dads farm.
Now he has a calf missing again

I wouldnt turn any dog loose, Ive seen uhh..bad results.

I also have some pcis of a donkey stomping a coyote's ass on my work PC I willupload tomorrow

I have an unnamed friend in Crouse, NC who was having a problem with coyotes. He had tried trapping and hunting them to no avail. His dog went missing, and when he found the dog's collar, that was the last straw. He observed and found the den, made a simple pipe bomb that he was sure would be "enough" and dropped it in and did the RLH. It was way more than he expected, but he hasn't had a problem since. This is one of those things that only works in more rural areas, where your neighbors are not next door and are on the same page about these things.

I don't really know many people on this board but if I buy the ammo can I come too?

When I was in Kansas coyotes were a shoot on site kinda animal. A buddy of mind and some of his friends were big into coyote hunting. They all had coyote trucks with dog boxes on the back. 3-4 of them would surround the edges of a field and one would go up the middle shooting a .22 to flush them out. Once they started running it was like the Kansas 1000 until they got close enough to let the greyhounds out. After the greyhounds had it pinned a kill dog would catch up and finnish it off.

I can take a day or 2 off of work.. To help a friend. :D

Set up a perimeter, fields of fire, and bring on the enemy..

That is the only sure fire way, the way I see it. We raise alot of goats (400+), we lost almost 100 over a years time about 4 years ago. My dad went and bought a pyranese put it in with the goats and haven't lost one to predators since. They barely eat anything for a dog their size and they pretty much just lay there unless something comes in the field.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, and offering to help guys!! As far as alot of folks coming out to hunt, it would be alot of fun, but with a dozen horses and alot of neighbors these days, it unfortunately can't happen. We have a little over 100 acres, but there's an elementary school, and a neighborhood across the street these days. I can get away with shooting my .35 Remington, and few shotguns, but if we had an all out 'coyote war' one weekend, I might get some unwanted attention from the neighbors. :D
