Craftsman Discussion - Moved from FS Ad

Lowe's does not own Craftsman, Stanley/Black & Decker does.

This.

B&D bought Craftsman for $900M and announced on their next quarterly earning call that they had identified manufacturing opportunities that would cut craftsman delivered good costs by 10-13%. Meaning, it's going into cheaper chinese factories.

Not all the Snap-On stuff is USA made either. The Dual-80 ratchets are made in their Bahco factory in Spain IIRC, which is far more acceptable than China. You can get a less flashy looking Bahco-branded unit with the same Dual-80 internals for far less than the Snap-On.

I've got a number of those Craftsman units, and they're made in the USA but they're pretty crude.

I pulled this out of the for sale thread because I thought it made for good discussion but was cluttering @tknopp ad.

Sucks for Sears that they had to sell off the golden goose.
Literally the only reason I ever set foot in our local Sears (and the mall, even) is to buy Craftsman tools (or get a replacement).
Apparently our local store does still have them, but I don't know how long that will hold out; it's funny b/c according to Craftsman's website they list our local Lowe's as carrying them but not the Sears store.

Sears doesn’t own craftsmen Lowes does and we moved all manufacturing back to the USA.

Apparently @CAROLINA ROCKRUNNER not only doesn't know who he works for, but also how they make their products.

He resurfaces every few months after he's made an ass out of himself then goes into hiding until he thinks everyone has forgotten, then pops back up

He's not been to bad though recently

I have no idea if this is true, but my understanding is SEARS will get to carry craftsman as long as there is a Sears per the purchase agreement.
A friend owns an ACE Hardware locally and has carried craftsman for years, he inquired with his rep when Lowes started showing up with craftsman as he was worried it might cut into his stream and thats what he says eh was told.

He resurfaces every few months after he's made a tremendous ass out of himself and his name, address and criminal history are reposted. He goes into hiding until he thinks everyone has forgotten, then pops back up

Pretty much. He usually tries to attack me and piss me off for no apparent reason.
Like talking shit about my daughters.
Guess how that will end?
Taking the high road this time.
'Dre out...

Here in Morganton, there hasn't been a Sears in years, had to go to Hickory to get stuff replaced "on the spot"
Morganton Ace Hardware carries a small amount of Craftsman stuff, Now our local Lowes Hardware also has Craftsman tools and other stuff too, like a LOT of tool boxes!
I imagine I can get stuff warrantied there, but it will be like the Sears we used to have. Take in what ever is broken, and get a replacement in the mail.

Is he the same guy that tried starting a race buggy fab shop ....nevermind, that was Dynamite or something silly, right? Are they the same person?

Nah, different guy.

Sears sells Craftsman to Stanley Black & Decker

Spectrum bought the hardware and home improvement division of SBD in 2012. The tool business remains a separate entity.

Stanley black and Decker that acquired craftsman trades under SWK
Spectrum traders under SPB

And SBD owns DeWalt and Proto, or at least they used to.

I like Proto stuff. That's what McMaster Carr stocks usually, although the brand is not listed (like most things McMaster carries). So if you buy, say, a half dozen 10mm sockets because they have the hiding ability of baby spiders, they will be Proto.

Not a Dewalt fan though.
