Whos got Craigslist stories...With all the scamming and etc its about pushed me away from selling anything on there..Its just not worth all the BS.

Heres my latest funny off there (happened today)

Chinese guy calls me three times yesterday asking crazy questions about the car..Says he will be here wednesday morning to get it..please hold it. I said yeah i can do that.

Guy calls me early this morning. "can i bring check" I said bring 1500.00 cash or the car dosnt leave. He says ok.

Guy gets here. knit picks every litle thing wrong ( all listed clearly in my ad) Test drives the car and is gone for 20 mins.

Gets back finally. Asks me whats the best i can do..there is so much wrong with it. I said the car is in great shape and all problems are listed in ad clearly and are all cosmetic..But since you drove here ill take 1400.00 cash

Guy goes and talks with his friend for 15-20mins..i sit there waiting.. Comes back and says " The car needs some work..how about $600" I laugh..and respond. "Hell no..You will be lucky to find one running for 600. This cars not for you thanks.

The people were from 2hrs away..Who out there really wastes 4hrs out of there day to come low low low ball someone.. Well heres to half a wednesday wasted:beer:

I've had almost the same thing happen.. Everything that was wrong with the car was listed in the ad... On the phone he asks whats the lowest i'll go, I tell him if hes interested to come by and we will talk. Guy gets here and starts pointing the problems out like I had no idea... Car was listed for $2200...

He drives it, talks to his 3 buddies he brought, and says hey look I only brought $500 will you take that.. I tell him to get the FAWK out of my driveway and never come back. After that I wouldn't have sold him that car for $5k just out of principal and smite.

had the samething happen a few times so then I listed the car on craigslist said its a pos has stains all over paint looks like shit etc had a guy come by and look and said the car looks better then he thought it would and he bought if for my asking price

Same deal, all problems clearly stated and over the phone worked out the lowest money. The guy shows up and I waste 4hours with him until he works up the nerve to offer me half of what I said I would take over the phone. I told Him OK then and he replied "we've got a deal?" I looked at him and said h#ll no dummy. He told me he was prepared to go $100 more dollars but that was it! I told him that I Was prepared to stomp his @zz a mud hole and then splash all the water out of it. He then decided to leave.

LOL!

I haven't sold anything on Craigslist. Do you guys think it is just people browsing Craigslist, or do you think the same thing would have happened if you listed it on TraderOnline?

:D PLEASE tell me you really said that :lol::lol::lol:
I have only tryed to sell one thing on there and if you give your email then you get all this crap about, im deaf so i cant call you but give me all your INFO and ill send a check, once you get the check ill send UPS to get it:shaking:.... people are CRAZY!!

I sell a few things on there. I always ask people to call and don't give out my e-mail on there. If I feel like it, I do ask that if people e-mail, to put something specific in the subject line. That usually cures the spammers.

For the people calling, I get people calling quite a bit about my truck and the suburban. 90% of them never show up and 90% of the ones that show up are a waste of time; much as described as above.

However, I had a guy come and look at the suburban and make an offer (fairly reasonable) without ever driving it! I was shocked! The offer was a little low so I had to pass but I couldn't believe that. I did have someone call me and say they had $2500 for the suburban I had listed for $5000! I told him if he wants to look at it he better bring at least $2000 more with him. Never heard from him again.

However, the most ridiculous offer I've ever had on a vehicle did not come from someone on Craigslist or Traderonline...

It was from CarMAX! They offered me 30% of the trade-in value for a truck one time...

Thats the way I live. :flipoff2:atleast til my wife gets home:lol: Years ago I sold all kinds of stuff and had no issues with anyone. It was like after they caught the serial killer and arrested all the prostitues the popo never came back and the scammers were like the plague. It got to where if the item wasn't listed in detail in the response e-mail I would just delete it. I had one guy about 6 hrs away hassel me because I wouldn't deliver an item and take $300 dollars less. After about 2 weeks of emails and phone calls I final said ok I'll do it and he gave me his address. Well a week later he wanted to know when I was coming and I told him I couldn't find the place and he gave me the same address again. Thats when I had him and he knew it after a very lengthy conversation I never heard from him again.

I think the trade offers are the best. Put something up for sale on CL and say you may be interested in a trade and just wait and see the offers you get.

Buddy of mine was selling an old 3-wheeler on CL and someone actually offered him a wedding dress as a trade:confused:

I got you all beat, I had a utility trailer listed on Craigslist when I lived in Troutman. Had a guy call about it, I described in detail, we came to agreement on a price, set a date to pick it up.

The day rolls around he calls says he is on his way. The guy(?) shows up to my house wearing a miniskirt, tube top, and heels. He looked 50-55yo, stood about 6'5" tall and had to have weighed 350~400 pounds, a full beard(on his face). He hands me the cash, then proceeds to "man handle" the trailer out of my garage and hooks it up to his truck. Let me tell you a miniskirt is pretty revealing and nasty. He also told my nephew(22yo USMC) that he was cute and gave him his number. I have never laughed so hard in all my life. My nephew just said "Thank you sir or mame"

I had lots of questions from my 9yo son as well, who was watching from inside the house.

I listed a Sammi on CL...got a call from a guy in Danville Va. ,he asked the lowest I would take, I told him bring 1500 or don't bother coming. He goes and rents a trailer, rolls up in his buddies H2, drives it, then offers $1100. I explained to him that the lowest price was discussed on the phone and if it wasn't worth that to him, then cool, leave. He then gets on the phone with his wife and then tells me she wont let him spend anymore than $1100. Ok..I say, sorry for your drive here I'm going in the house. He then tells me he'll go $1200 and not tell his wife he's spending that much...I felt like offering him a pair of balls or at least some pants to wear around his house. After burning up close to an hour with him, I'd had it. I explained to him that I get home at 6 , my daughter goes to bed at 8..that gives me 2 hours a night to be "daddy"...he just wasted an hour of it, goodnight. He then says well you have my numbner if you change your mind...I explain to him that he has my number, cause my mind isn 't changing. He leaves, I sell it the next day for more than it was offered to him. A week later the phone rings, he's had a change of heart...I loved telling him he missed it , it's gone. I hate wanna be wheeler dealers. When I want something , I make an offer and if it's taken great, I pay in cash and leave. If my offer isnt taken I get in the car/truck and go home ..period. Nothing sucks like someone wasting your time and there's no bigger prick move than wasting someone elses.

I've had people SWEAR up and down they're on the way to buy stuff and never show up..WTF? But..I've also sold numerous items quickly with absolutly no hassle. Whats up with people not posting Email address or phone # at ALL..??

I sold my F350 on CL

His Daughter emailed me..I called him...he drove 4 hours....looked at the truck for 5 min. and said he would take it BUT he had some "money" coming. I said cool but I need large cash deposit....he whips out 3500 cash. I gave him 30 days to return with the balance or no more deposit. He showed up on the 28th day with the rest.

BUT most stuff I list on CL I get the..." I want to discuss you item for sale" or "I like you item but how would you like your junk to be 6 inches bigger"

i was trying to sell a xbox on there one time and i got a email about 3 days later. this email said i would like to buy your xbox for 100 dollars more than what you are asking because i want it now and i need it shipped to africa. i was all for it at first and then after i got another email that said they sent the money but pay pal how a new way of doing stuff and my money wouldnt show up till i sent the buyer a tracking number and they approved. for some reason that sounded a little fishy to me so i got scared and backed out. i sent them a email saying ive herd alot about frauds on cl and i said im not saying you are one but this deal just seems to good to be true so i decided not to sell it and they got a little pissy that they didnt get me and said not everyone out there is out to get someone but i think they where trying to get a free xbox but they didnt get one from this ol boy

I sold a CJ-7 back last fall.
Listed on Craigslist for $3500 pretty good deal all original hard top/doors v8 3 speed etc.

Well the day i listed it I got over 30 phone calls, it had a bad rust spot on the frame which had been repaired, but I mentioned that in the ad and took pics.

guys drives from Atlanta in an old school car hauler with a carbed 454, takes it for a test drive tells me what Jeep expert he is and how this one is not worth what I am asking. Ok have a good day. But he is willing to give me $3200 I was considering it until a guy from this board pulled up to look at it (both had agreed to come that afternoon but didnt have specific times, it just worked out that way)...I explained I wasnt letting it go for $3200 with another buyer in the driveway.

He agrees and leaves heading back to atlanta (at this point how much gas has this dude burned in this 454 but it gets better) So I sell the jeep that night to another buyer (not the one in the yard while he was here)

Next day around 5 the guy shows back up, no phone call and says he changed his mind he will give me 3500. I point out the Jeep is gone..he says look I didnt have the cash on me last night, I had to get some money out of the bank and proceeds to count out 35 100s...sorry the jeep is gone....

He looks bummed and gets back in his gas guzzler and heads back to Atlanta...

I figure the guy burned 250 in gas and never got a Jeep.

Yeah CarMax tried to screw me,I had a mustang with 56k that I bought from the original owner who I was with the day they bought the car new.Went to carmax to sell it,they offered me 2300 bucks and tried to tell me the car had been totalled and had been on frame machine.Sold the car for 7500 the next week and never have or will deal with carmax

Had 2 guys come look at my truck yesterday, both were very interested, one offered cash, one offered a trade + cash, I was more interested in the trade plus cash. I talked to the guy for about an hour, all seemed in order, and for the last 24 hours we have discussed things and had fine tuned our agreement, I tell him sure, we can meet late (8-9 pm) but be sure to have the title notarized prior to coming out otherwise it will make things very complicated. At 7 he calls, says he is about to head my way and the title is ready.
Texts me 5 minutes ago saying "The title is at my bank and I cant get it out until 2moro, can we maybe do this saturday instead?" I think to myself, how the hell did the title get notarized if its at your bank? Turns out hes only 18, kid looked older than me lol, his sister apparently was supposed to pick up the title for him, and forgot. Understandable, but why bullshit me?
Seriously thought I had been scammed and turned down a cash offer for nothing, laughing to myself now, but was severely pissed only moments ago

No freakin way... Poor bastard must have lost a bet or something... Can't imagine seeing that, not sure I could have kept myself from laughing and making a joke.

I just sold some 38" Terra Grapplers on CL here in Sacramento and got 3 calls:

One guy asked if they would fit any car with 18" rims. I said no, and asked what he had. His reply was "it's a 2006 Honda Accord". Ive seen crazier, so I had to ask "Is it lifted?" and I could hear him shout to someone else "Dude is my Honda lifted?" . . . . "No I dont think so" The ad had pictures an everything, some people. .

The other call I got was asking to trade for a laptop and digital camera I could sell for more than my asking price for the tires. Told him to sell him laptop and camera and come to me with $$$ and pocket whatever extra you got for selling them. Said he didnt have time to post them and needed the tires asap. .

Anyway finally got a call and an offer of cash and sold em, and that was probably my best experience selling stuff on CL.
