Crazy snow in MD

I'm sure you guys have heard, but we are getting insane crazy snow up here.
Started falling around 4 yesterday, wasn't really sticking until maybe 6-7.
Then itfell at average of 1"+ per hour.
No idea what the current accumulation is but estimates are in teh 20-24" range, expecting up to 28-30 total.

dayyum Dave. Hope they have good drainage systems up there. Hope yall stay safe...not that you'll be going anywhere for a while. lol

Dude, it soudns cool but there's a point at which it becoems a serious PITA.

Think of this - the snow is so deep that, regardless of traction, most cars can't go anywhere b/c they are high centered. Guy across teh street formme right nwo is trting to get his SUVout and can't b/c the snow on our street is over his bumper. It's like a major plow effect. I'm oging to try my 4Runner a little later, since the front bumper is over it and the IFS skid plate should act like a sort of scoop.

They're reporting that people w/ flat-top roofs (e.g. mobile homes/trailers) are at serious risk of collapse formteh weight, already have had several reports of this.
I can barely get the storm door on my front door open b/c of teh snow piled up in front of it, if I didn't have a 3' deep covered front potrch it wouldn't happen.
I just watched a guy "walking" up teh street, he ad to take really big long steps just to get his feet up high enough to walk.
And worst of all- my bet is that sledding will be completely pointless unless you can find a spot that's already packeddown, or thesled woudl just be plowing through it. :lol:
 
yea thats cool to see but i dont think i would want to live in it

i wish i wouldn't have deleted that email i got a few weeks ago it shows canada and the snow is even with the roof of the houses theres one picture where a guy had his snowmoblie parked on his roof! people had dug out places to get to there hot tubs and down there side walks it was crazy! it looked like a maze
 
Back in 93, we had the "blizzard" here, I think 26" and it was a lot of work. Lost power, so had to camp out in one room, no water to flush toilets, take a shower ans so on. Not to mention, major pita to drive in.
No thanks, glad we had mostly rain Dave, I hope you are prepared for what might happen

about 500 miles, maybe 6 hrs or so.

it finally stopped coming down late-day yesterday.
I live o na cul-de-sac off a side road w/ a nice grade to it.
Nobody on my circle could get out, the guy across from me tried late night, it was pretty funny, he madei t about 5' before the front of his AWD van became a plow and just stopped.
Hsi son (17) waso ut there cleaning off his toyota Matrix liek it was going somewhere, lol.

I just got out the 4Runner, it took some work but I made it down the street. Only reason I could get out is b/c I ain't skeered of the skinny pedal or sliding, lots of back n'; forth just plowing through. Having front/rear lockers, taller tires and lift helped, plus the IFS skid acts like a scoop to kind of get on top of it. A solid axle pumkin acts liek a plow.
Fun part was turning around and coming back up the hill, down was easy :lol:
 
I just got back from ST. Clairesville Ohio, we got 20 in fri and sat and they are expecting 2-4 more inches today. My brother and his brother-in-law have a superbowl weekend party, lobster & wine sat night , crab legs and a munchie counter a mile long sunday & lots of Dirt2 in between.

Meh, you can see the tires, that ain't shiat...

My Mazda is 100% covered, so sign of color. Snow in yard was up past my knees.

Best part is knowing we have another 12-20" starting again today.
Fawk this, my arms hurt from shoveling so damn much snow.

Sadly (ironic?) one of the local fire stations rood (flat) collapsed from snow weight buildup. aparently that's becomin ga big problem, only expected to get worse.
 
OK so we've had at least another foot.
This has gone from being kinda neat, "epic", to getting old really fast.

At least some of the names have been pretty funny - "Snownami", "Snowpocalypse", "Snowmageddon".

I prefer "Shit-ton of snow".

You and your Maryland/DC snow can stop now. Government offices were closed and our financial aid checks have yet to be mailed because of this. Soooo for those of us that are broke...thanks. Stop. Hahaha.

Trust me... I'd really rather be done w/ this. Not exactly my call as to whether we get 3' of snow, you'll have to take that one up w/ The Big Guy Upstairs. Even The O can't be blaimed for thsi one ;-)
I'd rather be at work anyway, i'm in the middle of a big data processing job that can only be done on one of our big multi-core workstations... sitting at home is killing me. I'll prob end up going in on Friday, supposed to be my RDO, to make up the lost time. I'd be there now but they closed the post and won't let people in.
