Wht kind of Credit cards do yo have? Are there certain credit cards that give you more incentives or kickbacks or rebates?? I am looking for a new credit card and don't know which one to get. Thanks.

I think the best is not to have any at all. if you don't have the cash then don't buy it. of couse it is good to have one in a emergency.

there is a site http://www.creditcards.com that you can look at for the best offer I would look for one with 0% for 12 months or more.

Yep x3 or whatever...

mine is used only for expensables that the company reimburses.

I love seeing people use credit (not debit) cards at Mickey D's....I mean how bad is it when you finance a big mac...

ahaha no sh*t...but most of the people i see using those credit cards at micky d's ... are the ones who would acaully think about financing a big mac...if u get what i mean! ahaha

I have a Capitol One mastercard. I have had it for 10 years now. Besides the few times they tried to raise my credit limit, they have been really good about not sending me a bunch of junk mail and stupid offers. It pretty much just gets used for gas, and a few purchases that I don't want to go to the bank and get money out for. It's the only one I have ever had, so I can't really help with other cards.

mark another tally for not using one. find one with no annual fees. use for a tank of gas a month to keep it active and pay it off before thirty days. having a full line of credit on a credit card that is only used once a month and promptly paid off is good for your credit score, hence, why it would make sense to buy a Big Mac on one. however, i dont think thats why people use them for that reason!

just dont use it for something you cant pay for that month.

I have 2. I use one all the time, other only very rarely.
Had the account for like 10 years, platinum status etc w/ Bank of America.
I don't really get the frilly payback stuff, points etc... however I've found that having a strong history w/ teh same company is more valuable.
I always pay off the balance every month, no matter what.
The truth is, the companies HAVE to have guys like me (good creditees) in order to balance the, er, finance a big-mac guys... and they know it and if you are in that catagory, will work to keep you happy and loyal.
For instance, there have been muliple times that, for one reason or other, I simply forgot to pay the bill until the day of or even a little late. Call 'em up, do bank draft over the phone... they look at my good, long history, and waive the draft fee, interest etc, list it a on-time payment.

I use it for work expenses, and specific kinds of purchases, so I can keep a record. E.g. all home improvement stuff... at the end of year, very easy to tab how much I spend on the house.
Plus you want to usse it for any kind potentially shaky purchases, like buying from folks you don't know... if somebothing goes bad w/ the transaction, you can call the CC company and contest the charge, and teh company will go after the charger i nyour place.
The *key* is to pay off the complete balance each month.

My 2nd CC is usedo nly for emergencies, it stays locked in a drawer.

Oh, I should mention, the Bank of America card has the ability to issue you a number for a set period of time with a limit you set..

PERFECT for vendors who insist on keeping your CC info on file, and probably have shit for security (*cough* 6x6)

LOL..who daniel? you mean, taped to the side of his fridge with duct tape ain't secure enough!

If you do get one pay it off like ratlabguy said, i mean you do need to have credit built some how, even if its not as good as buying a new truck or a house, its still credit. NEVER PAY MINIMUMS!
I dont have a high credit limit on mine the minimun monthly payments are $15, but the interest is usually like $12 of that so paying a card off like that could take YEARS, possibly almost a decade to pay off at $3 a month and thats if you just use it once, or run up your balance quickly.

I do that;) Of course, that card is paid in full every month. We find it easier to have a single joint account, she uses the debit card, I use the credit card, that way, I won't forget to give her receipts for something to manage the account with. When the credit card bill comes in, it gets paid in full, it's the same card we use for fuel too.

We've got two credit cards total, one used as described as above and the other we use for big purchases that we know we'll pay off within a year. For us, there is no "minimum payment",.....if we get a $5k balance, we drop $500 a month until it's paid off, and we also try to find the low APR cards and have been known to switch because of it.

Get as many as possible , go on a shopping spree and then file bankruptcy, it's the American way. Oh yeah and while you're at it get a hybrid mortgage that adjusts every few years, but don't worry about being able to actually make the payment in a few years, the Gov. will bail you and the lender out, all on everyone elses dime.:bounce2:

i got my first one lat month. figured it was time to start building a good credit line. i use it 2 times a month to fill up the dodge. then pay it off once i get the bill. figured if i keep doing this threw college and all i might end up with a good credit score....might as well start now!

Unfortunately CC's are a necessary evil in this modern society of ours. try getting a car loan or a Mortgage with no credit history. damn near impossible. My parents moved back to the states from living over seas for several years. Dad makes damn good money. they had no credit history to speak of since they paid for everything out right. He had a hell of time getting a mortgage because he didn't have any credit history. his card was supplied by the company, and he'd put everything to it, and it was paid off every month. To the tune of $15K+ a month. (Lot's or airline tickets, hotels, etc.) Mortgage lenders didn't care, it wasn't "His" credit, and it didn't matter that that his Annual Salary was 3 times what the sticker price was on the house.

CC's Suck, but if you do want good Credit (and this comes from my brother who managed a collections department for a Credit Company) get one, use it for Gas or something each month that you know you can pay off. Pay all off each month, but now and then pay the minimum and carry a balance to the next month, then pay it all off.

Keep the same card for a LONG TIME! Long term customers build good credit too. not those that get one, run it up for the holidays, then close the account. VERY BAD!

There's plenty of other pointers I can get you from him on this stuff if interested. He ended up leaving because he found out just how much of a racket CC's really are. Don't believe ANY hype they feed you, and NEVER use those convenience checks they send you. NOR borrow cash on them. Just remember they are not your friends, and they are out to screw you!

I have a jeep credit card... gives me rewards on every dollar I spend, plus triple rewards at participating dealers. All going towards jeep related merchandise, or gas cards, or dealer dollars

The only bad part it is the front of the card is a muddy stocker with rollcage lights

You just need an underwriter who does manual underwriting. ;)

Yep, and they ARE out there. Just dont walk into BoA or Walkoverya and expect to find them.

I do use a credit card that pays me 5% back on all fuel purchases, which is nice and pys me $4-500/year..

I got the REI visa card, so I get my bonus points there every year - free camping stuff...
I looked into getting the Dick's card, but their points expire every 3 months, so you can't really save up for anything too expensive...
as others mentioned, I ALWAYS pay it off every month...but that being said, if I have to buy gas, groceries, etc anyway, why not get free bonus stuff from it?
Just be careful, read all the fine print, etc...and don't get in over your head...

Hm, I'm curious. Why ever carry the balance at all? I don't see how that is good for you. I can't remember the last time I carried over.

If youve ever seen how a credit score is calculated, there is no benefit to carryig a balance.
That is just a lie taught by the CC compnaines to their people to teach the customers so that even the financially sensible will occaisonally give them extra money.

The only thing that is looked at for credit score purposes is length of account, all time high balance, current balance, last 6 month high balance and payment history.
