Cruggy Progress III

Last, but not least, the video of the engine running.. Keep in mind, it was not warmed up at all when this was taken.. I'm still amazed at how well it runs... (right click, save..)

It's alive!!

What's left...

mount cooler & CO2 tank.
plumb brake lines and proportioning valve.
build mount and install tranny shifter.
build center console.
Dash skin.
roof panel.
driveshafts & carrier bearing mount.
skidplate.
rear bumpstops.
wiring harness.
PAINT.

Not bad, really. (Considering the original list was 50+ items, and had little details like "cage") I'm still on track. Hoping for a shakedown run on 8/26. If not, Labor day weekend run is my shakedown!

Dayton, TN. Not exactly the place for a "shakedown run" by ANY means. More like "trial by fire".

But, I'm doing everything I can not to be "that guy"

Rich nice work, I just saw this on pirate. and about the time was coming up with a solution. You had fixed it.

My question why two tanks at a time? I have seen guys with V8's run two full weekends on one tank...

Why not, Put it at a stand up or slight angle behind the seats? Maybe even elevated between the two cross braces.

Could have put box on Floor, and a cooler. Driveshaft, Hub. etc.

Oh well. I hope to have mine done by then. Not looking really great but Ok.

I do like the outcome, though. Really nice. gives me a vision for mine.

That's amazing. most of what I've heard is one day per tank. My reason for 2 is that I don't wanna be "That guy on propane that ran out during a long trail ride" Picture me running out in the middle of Dolly's squeeze.. That's why. I would LOVE to have only one tank.. would keep everything low, low, low... but something had to give, for the range. Maybe if I find after a year, that I really don't need 2 tanks, I'll remove one and put all that junk next to the one tank, and just run that...

But, I also wanted the tanks as low as possible, which dictated horizontal mounting.. Each tank when full is over 50lbs, plus the brackets... I'd rather have the 110lbs or so down low, and the 40-50 lbs or so in tools, food, tarps, etc.. above them. Plus, lifting them up and out is alot easier like this, they'll just slide out the back of the rig. (I'm a wimp)

I can afford to have some weight a little further back than with them between the seats.. don't want a 90/10 distribution!

If you do decide to run yours vertically, I saw a bracket set on e-bay for that, that never sold.. you could probably score it cheap.

Look forward to wheeling with you again soon!!

Well the Cruggy is looking sweet. amazing what just a little cage work, and trying to lighten it turns in too.

As for Propane stuff. I still am undecided. Shoot me that link for the mount if you still have it.

I have basically all my efi Stuff, ready to run. But that means more space taken up with wire running, Computer Mount, etc. Just like 4-6 wires and a big ass line to the engine.

I am looking for a Impco Setup 420-425 for mine. If you see anything.

I let a buddy have the setup, I was going to put together.

Oh Where is your spare Third going this year

Right where the good lord split ya', buddy... :flipoff2: Fawker.. :D

I'm fine-spline now, shouldn't be breaking any more of them.. *knock, knock* At least if I break the front, I can drive out. :D

You're not kidding about "what a little cage work and some lightening turns into".. isn't that always the case? I remember that my spring-over/shackle reversal/wheelbase stretch started off as a knuckle re-build...

Well I had to rib ya, at least yours was a pinion. And not alot of Gasket Sealent glogging your hubs :D

Like the Diamond plate look.... I may op for that instead of regular Alum sheets.

Mine will be trail only, so comp regs want matter really.

your shocks look really close to the frame, will they hit with max articulation, just a thought, since it might be nice to check before messin up some nice shocks...

I'm assuming you mean the rears? Yeah, they're close.. but I was thinking about it... they are angled slightly outwards, which should help clearance when compressing, and under articulation, the lower shock mount *should* move closer to the center of the rig. (right?)

We'll see, I am a bit concerned about it, but I'll just have to look when I get it twisted up. Worst case, I'll have to make a longer tab for the upper mount, or slightly trim the crossmember bracket back for another 1/4-1/2" clearance.

Looking good Rich! I like the rear deck hatch. I want to make one kinda like that too. Maybe use some plain aluminum. I like the rear shock mounts on the axle. Very simple but sturdy.

Well, Nicole had her input, and I gotta say, I like it. She said "the brakelights should go there".. and so they are...

But, waaay better than that... IT DRIVES!!! Now before you guys have a field day.. my new seats aren't in yet, and I wasn't about to wait.

Captured on video, the first time I put it into gear with the auto... My stomach was in knots... and i hit the brakes a little hard... these ain't manual brakes anymore!! :D

Check out this crawl... I'm gonna love it!! the idle is low enough, it doesn't try to drive through the brakes at all.. perfect.

Can ya tell I was a *little* giddy?

"I can't find what you're looking for! Put down the pipe, and return to where you were by hitting the "back" button."

You bring up my crack habit one more time and you'll see

not workin!

I tried clicking and also right click and save as like last time but to no avail.

It said the link could not be saved. The website might be moved or the name changed.

Dammit Rich! I wanted to see a burnout w/ that sweet v8 and them little ass tires. :D :burnout: :burnout:

Ooopss... fixed!

What did the engine temps get to while you were out and about?

Couldn't tell ya... no gauges installed yet. The wiring harness is coming last. All I had there was a starter, ignition, and ground.

I only ran it for a little bit though.. I know it didn't get that hot.

You know (in my best NC4x4 nazi voice) that burn out was on a public street , your rig didn't look like it was properly tagged, registered or inspected. I'm just giving you a hard time, but it does make ya wonder, I post running on veggie oil and I'm satan...lol anyway ,looks nice, lets hit the trails. :huggy:

i think a burn out is required of any lengthy rig build up...

Good job rich !!! guess i need to get my but in gear so when can have a shake down run...
