Daughter got bit by a dog

I knew my original post would bring out some emotional replies from both sides of dog ownership. At this point I think one thing that is bothering me the most about the situation is that the owner has yet to call to see how things are with my daughter. If this were the other way around, I would have called to check as well as offered to pay any medical bills. I'm gonna call animal control in the morning to make sure they picked up the dog. One other thing, I'm blown away at the extent of bruising on my daughters hip. That dog must have hit her pretty hard.

you are right on the money about the owner not getting in touch with your about your daughter's condition and saying that they are sorry and that they will make it right ... that is just wrong ! Hope your daughter makes a fast recovery and does not hold this against all dogs .

Crappy animal owner, you should give him a call and let him know how your daughter is. Better yet, go by and tell him with your daughter in the truck so he has to look at her.

I have been bitten by my dogs twice, one necisated a ER trip. We have labs, and they are very loving but I don't hesitate to think they would bite someone entering their area. The force from their jaws is phenominal, I thought my hand was broken when mine bit me the first time. The second time, she only caught my thumb and it was bruised and swollen for a few days.

I am sorry for your daughter and hope she recovers without a fear of dogs.

OK, Having been in the same thing last summer and with all the BS that has been posted I'm going to get into it a little but no need to talk about the BS that some are posting and have no clue about.
I went out late to check the truck, make sure I locked it, the dog from the next house over broke his chain at some time early and was around my truck and jumped me. Got me on my arm and leg, I went to shoot it then the dog jumped under my truck and backed off. Called RPD and AC they both came and did papers charger the people with dog at large and something else, because it was off there property and not on a chain or 6' leash. She could not find the papers on the dog so they took the dog that night and told me that it would be in a 10 day lock down I did not need to go to the doc but if I did that would be a Civil thing and I would need to take them to court or ask them for there insurance, BUT IT WAS BEST I NOT TALK TO THEM, because I may need to sign the papers to have there dog put down..... I was called back and told that they got the papers from the vet and could pick up the dog and keep in in lock down at there house but if I see it outside to call AC or RPD ASAP. After 10 days they could start keeping it outside. It would be up to the court or past problems if the dog would be put down. In this case the dog is still over there and we have not had a problem but I went on record with the court, RPD, the owner and AC that if it was on my property loose and after me, next time I would shoot it.

The problem I see with your deal is that you drove onto there property and she got out and went up to him. Yes the dog should not have done that and its a bad thing, I'm sorry and I hope she gets better soon. The dog may have been looking out for the kid because his dad was not around who knows.. If they did not break any laws with the dog and the dog has not got a record for say, then after the 10 days its all over. They may not know you went to the doc or think you got it covered with insurance, who knows. He may be thinking if he calls you your going to give him a 100 ways to kill his dog and what you want to do to his kid you he can feel the pain you are going through now, with seeing your child in it. I would call AC see what they say about the dog and tags, what there plan is, then base your plan from that. I would bet he will pay some type of ticket at most if he has tags. Then you can call him and tell him you had to take you girl to the doc and it cost X$ out of your pocket and ask if he can help you out with that or wanted to turn that into his home owners insurance..

if he turns it over to the home insurance they will cut off his home insurance because of the dog. They do the same thing for a trampoline with no netting, and an old can not run in pieces

We had to call the owner while we were at the doctor. One of the nurses had to talk to him to get some information for the paperwork. The forms must be mandatory in SC or at least in York County for a dog attack. He was very apologetic (of course) at the time, but haven't heard diddly since. I asked my daughter this morning if she feels like she might have a fear of dogs from this. She told me she doesn't think so, but she never wants to go near that house again. I guess we will see next time she's around a big dog.

Its sad, but if the HO has a lawyer, he will be advised not to contact you....

Now that's one thing I'll NEVER put in my yard, a damn trampoline. Much rather deal with a possible dog bite than a broken neck. :)

Yes it is required in SC, they should quarantine the dog immediately. Hell, it was one of my dogs that bit me and they wanted to q'tine them both, cause I didn't know which one bit me. The AC people keep up with all the info, they contacted my local AC yahoos and they came by to verify the dogs weren't mean.

I really feel for you daughter, I know how bad my hand hurt after the bite. So I know she is probably hurting after the hip bite.
