Dear Duke,

Some fans just pull agaisnt Duke, they don't have a team they support. Most of them would rather see Duke lose than the team they like if they even like a team win. No team goes undefeated so Duke getting beat is not upsetting in itself, just how other fans act like ass holes when Duke loses. I guess they don't get to celebrate Duke losing that much.

I saw Duke at #2 in the Midwest, but missed parts of the selection show. Where is Maryland seeded in the big dance?

Same place I am, at home!

Just so we're clear, I don't have anything against Duke (the institution). It's a great school, although I think their law and medical programs are overrated compared to a lot of much less expensive, less "big deal" places and tend to churn out professional assholes. But that's aside the point.
I just like to poke fun at the Duke fans b/c the vast majority of the fans I know are terrible losers, like they have no clue how to lose w/ dignity and there is nothing in the world beyond the Almighty Duke. This includes some very close friends that are really good people, it just makes them more fun to poke.

If you're actually getting riled up by my ribbing, you're already proving the point.

FYI my loyalties are like this:
1 - Wake Forest (double alum)
2 - State (brother, BIL, many friends alums)
3 - whatever NC-based school is playing (besides Duke)
4 - whoever's playing duke ;-)

If App (my 1st alum) ever goes 1-A they'll be top of the list

The more people hate them, the more I love them. I've been a DUKE fan all my life, it took a few years, but I learned that the more you're on top, the more people are going to hate you. One thing is for sure, DUKE has been at the top a long, long, time.

Go Duke!

Not trolling or starting a war, but what is with the "we" that I hear from a lot of duke and UNC fans that never wnet to school there.

More to the point, being a an of a college you didnt attend Ive never understood. I dont pull for the local high school team unless my kids are there...same thing to me. shrug.

I guess with that way of thinking you can't pull for pro teams or pro athletes either?

Sure you can. But you shouldn't use the term "we" unless you are in fact somehow actually affiliated *with the team*

I disagree but I do that with must of the bs you post. If I am a fan the we used could be that of we the fans or we the supporters of the team or athletes. I am a Jeff Gordon fan and I often say we almost pulled one off and I have never been in his car. A true fan feels they are invested in the team therefore the we works for them.

I'm going to start focusing on saying we more often in reference to DUKE just to piss yall off. :flipoff2:

No a pro team is a professional team. They are grown adults that's full time job is to entertain us. College sport is KIDS playing a game, that to be honest don't give a damn what you think of them. Heck most of the time they are more concerned with what skirt they are going to raise that night than the game at hand.

Look I LOVE college football. Follow it all over the country. But I also play it...and I understand what it is. A fun distraction. It's like my dad trying to pick on me this year after sc beat CLEMSON again. My retort then and now, yeah it sucks but I didn't miss a single block, miss a single tackle, or drop a pass out there so when the clock hit zero it was over. He on the other hand never set foot on either campus (except to visit me one time at CLEMSON) but he still claims some "we" in that victory. Shrug to each their own. But I'm not going to high five The home coming king and brag about how good we scored I'm the backseat...

I had a discussion with my wife about this the other day. I'm gonna start a new thread. It relates closely with this mentality.

i use the term "we" because as a fan of the team or school, i have a mutual bond among other fans of the same school or team.

Right but we is plural, possesive, inclusive.
So we (the fans) enjoyed the game (they) the players won.
