Bingo. You are not part of the team or part of the group that also includes the team, hence "we won" just is not appropriate.
I can kind of see how people might use "our team" if they are a real fan and donate, and feel some kind of ownership of the team. I don't personally agree w/ that either but at least it makes sense.
