deer hunting

i fell out saturday moring, luckily i was only about 8ft up. i was coming down (climber) and evidently i didnt latch one of the pins in the cable and my boot worked it out. bruised up the undersides of my arms pretty good when i fell through the top part. sat evening i checked every pin 3 or 4 times before i started up.

i wish you cousin a speedy recovery.

he ducked out of sight into the beans. it was quite impressive.

man, you just suck is all. how in the hell is that deer "ducking" your arrows? the beans barely come up to his belly! to "duck" your arrows he must be getting on his knees as soon as you trigger the release.......... or you just suck?

how often have you practiced your shot from idk ~15ft up a tree? im guessing, an this is from experience, that you are over estimating his distance and just shooting over his back. im king of it, i seem to always miss the first deer i shoot at with the bow every freaking year because of it. there is no way in hell a deer in beans that low is "ducking into the beans" every fawking time without running away. when they duck, its because they are startled by the noise of your bow and startled deer dont hang around to be startled 3-4 more times.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. 2 years ago during gun season a ragged and scrawny 4 pointer was about 20 yards from me just hanging out. I seen this deer for 2 days in a row and I got tired of him hanging around there (I would much rather shoot a fat doe) so I jumped up in my stand and started waving my arms and making noises.......he didnt care one bit, he looked at me like I was stupid and kept on eating. :lol: but my friend told me that last year someone shot him, and he hadn't grown a bit. At least he's not in the gene pool anymore...

he evidently wasnt startled by you.
 
Planning to try my hand at it this year. Being given access to a 100 acre "loaded garden" (a regular buffet for them), named on a Depredation permit (longer "season" :lol:), and being loaned a scoped Marlin 336 (.30-30)... was more than I could take.

This goes directly AGAINST my previous experiences of 30+ years ago... freezing in the woods, shooting a box of shells "practicing", and going home empty handed & frustrated when I swore off hunting!

first off, thats the edge of the field where I took the pic- the beans are over my waist where I shot at him. and yes, he did in fact duck successfully and run about 10 feet each time. he didnt see me, smell me or hear me other than when the arrow was in the air. I waited till his head was down in the beans to 'reload' and that let me fire off without any issues. my guess is the string was slapping my mosquito net over my face/head. Ive actually shot at and missed several deer at long rang that just stood there until #2 '06 came his way. Ive got video of me yelling at and honking the horn at a doe down there at 30 yards and she just looked at me. I even walked damn close and was going to try my damndest to stab her with a knife just to say I did. but she finally ran at about 15 feet.

Don't be so sure. Young deer can be dumb as hell. I've had yearlings and 2yo deer hang around inside of 30yds when I was stand hunting. One fawn in particular that was all but tame. You could stomp your feet and wave your arms in the air, and it might run five steps then loop around and ease back toward you.

Of course, I've been busted by more than I can count. But the dumb ones are out there too.

I got in the tree this morning saw 3 doe.Then at about 9 I got one of those "uncomfortable" feelings.So i got down to take care of business.When I looked up cross the sewer line there was a 6pt.I took a shot with my pants at my ankles.and of course nipped a small branch.Arrow bounced of his back.No blood. And for those wondering I did wipe.

was 'sitting' on HCORE4X4s back porch 5gal crapper last year and missed an opportunity on a nice doe, but I couldnt get up to get my rifle if you know what I mean. about a month before that he (Aaron) told me 'during the rut, dont even take a crap without your gun'. guess he knew what he was talking about.

no doubt, i had a fawn come out on me opening day that would not go away. but, have you ever seen a deer duck that many arrows in a row and still stand there? either the deer was just dumb and he flat missed, or the deer ducked once maybe twice, but not 4-5 times.
 
A friend of mine missed a small 8 pointer yesterday evening at about 25 yards, shot right over his back. He said the deer didnt even flinch, it just kept walking and went out of sight before he could get another shot. And his dad told us that on Monday he got in the treestand and instantly had to GO. He walked about 100 yards away from his stand and let it out. Then Tuesday he saw 2 does over there where he took a dump and was checking it out! I told him next time he should just let loose right underneath his stand. hahaha.

got THAT arrow back and 2 more that I lost 2 weeks ago.
dang, RAGE's make big holes. he went 50 yards.

yeah Im hooked on it. going out as soon as my clothes come out of the dryer. going to the other side of the property to find a big doe.
 
well guys, no deer for me yet. but I got something else instead......a pink slip from the game warden! ooooppss. Its ok tho, just a warning for leaving my hunting licence at home. He was nice about it so I didn't worry.

and btw, I got a story for ya that youll like, so stay posted! (Im going to get someone in some hot water, maby) ill tell ya more later when I get all the photo's together.

took these guys this past weekend at my farm- rifle season. my buddy got 1 more, and another we couldnt track due to rain.
