My Ditch Witch mini skid steer won't start after the engine gets to operating temp. It has a Kubota engine. It starts fine when cold starting it, but after it runs for a while and gets up to operating temp it won't start until it cools back down. Any ideas? I replaced the fuel shutoff solenoid a few weeks ago also.

when it wont start do you get smoke out the exhaust pipe or is it clean like theres no fuel I'm assuming it's not an electronic diesel engine like it's got an injection pump correct?

I don't get any smoke. It's like it's not getting fuel. I'm pretty sure it has a injection pump, I'm not very familiar with diesel engines. Fuel comes out when I take the lines loose from the filter housing. But if I want until it cools down it will fire right up.

This is the best picture I can get of where the fuel lines go into the engine. The line on the right goes into a little contraption that has a lever on it for priming it. I can take the line loose and pump the lever and fuel comes out.

How old is the engine? Is it a tier3, tier4I, 4final? Also what family and hp rating.

Pic of the engine tag? I may be able to help.

the temp sender, make sure the connector is in good condition and is attached.

yeah that looks like a little rotory injection pump will it try to hit at all if you use the hand primer to prime it up and then crank on it if so that could indicate a supply/lift pump issue

No it won't fire at all after I use the primer lever.

2012 should be tier 3. I'll look and see if I have an engine manual for a D1105. Let you know tomorrow morning.

You can also contact engine power source in charlotte. They are a kubota dealer, they supply all our engines.

I pulled this down on line, kubota australia. I would be looking at the harness and any sensor that would control fuel. Does it have a place the plug in Diagmaster?

This is the only thing I see you might could plug something into. Unless there is something under the gauge panel, I'll look tomorrow.

In your picture, the green cover, with an electrical plug under it; is that the starter, or perhaps a fuel solenoid?
To start, do you have to move the throttle lever open, & then pull the lever all the way closed, to stop the engine? Or just turn a key, to start & stop?

That's the fuel shutoff solenoid.

Is it an external mounted solenoid? If so just disconnect it electrically and mechanically and just move it to the run or off position by hand or could even verify it is going to run position when when it won't start.

Yea it's just got 2 wires connected to it. Will it shut off if it starts without it connected? My concern is having a run away engine.

I've got a boxer walk behind with the same engine, they are very simple and parts are pretty cheap luckily. You might need to do a compression check when warm, maybe needs valves adjusted? Is it turning over at full speed with the starter?

Yea it turns over plenty fast I think. It would be a lot easier to work on if there was room inside this thing to work on it. Almost have to do everything one handed because there isn't enough room for two hands. A friend of mine also told that it could be low compression causing it to not start when it's hot. That's worse case scenario I guess. He also said could be worn out injectors. I'm hoping its something I can fix myself and won't cost a small fortune. I haven't had this thing but a couple months.

Obviously it would suck but you can buy a complete rebuild kit, pistons sleeves and all is about $350. I believe they are known to warp heads too so that would need addressed too. Make sure it's getting fuel to the injectors and valve clearances are good first though

That's not as bad as I thought for a rebuild kit. It would suck installing it though. I pulled the fuel line that hooks to the fuel rail and there was fuel coming out. I've read worn injectors could be the cause after it gets hot. Something about tolerances loosening up after getting hot. I'll have to do more research on injectors and valve adjustment.

Does it run bad when it gets hot? Does it shut off while.iys running and wont crank back? Or does it run fine, then once you shut it off it wont crank back?

Does this have a murphy hot engine shut down or low oil shut down? I looked through my kubota manuals. I don't have one for that engine.
