Disappointed with CJ7

Here’s my problem…. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and hear every rattle and feel every vibration. I trace them all down to eliminate the source. It’s a bit of an affliction, honestly.

My F150 is starting to age and chasing rattles / shakes is a bit tougher. I may find myself driving a new truck as a result.

Since you didn't specify year, it's at best at 35 year old vehicle ...... that things gonna eventually drive you nuts.
There will always be something.

I’m the same way with rattles. I’ve got one now in my Tacoma. It comes and goes. It’s nothing mechanical. Something in the cab is rattling. Can’t find it. It consumes me every time I drive it. Drives me crazy. I guarantee nobody else would even notice it, but it’s all I hear.

EXACTLY!!!!

This is why I drive a ‘98 12 valve Cummins. 5” pipe and a 64mm turbo says I ain’t hearing ANY rattles lol. Problem solved!

Or, you need one of those “neighbors hate you sound systems” so you don’t hear the small things!

On a serious note, your Jeep is a jaw dropper and I really think this is why people these days are so desensitized to what their car is doing cause the new cars don’t “talk” to you. They just flash some Christmas tree lights on the dashboard and then you go overpay someone to fix it. Supposedly.

I hope I do not get this kind of regret with either of my project-vehicles-in-waiting. I have collected parts for years for both my Blazer and my Willys and when I finally put them together I hope I do not get disappointed! Still a few years away from tackling the major stuff on either one of them.

Good luck with whatever you decide, it is a sharp Jeep that I would never mind having in my stable. Sell it to me cheap without that 8274...I have a spare to put on it.

I’ve decided to just put the cover on it and forget about it for a few weeks. I’ll start diagnostics after a mental break from it. Hopefully, theyll be mostly simple, dumb things and get my head back into the game!

So I tried to fix the squealing water pump. Turns out I had the wrong pump (wrong direction), so I got the correct one from the store. Now the squeal is gone but the coolant isn’t flowing at all. Instead, it’s boiling in the engine. I’m hoping it’s just a bubble and that it itmoves after cooling down.

Spent all day on it and I’m not convinced it’s any better. So frustrating.

I have had MANY projects and to me the key is walking away when you get frustrated and being able to let it be long enough that the desire comes back.

If though it is a veh you really just don’t jive with, you’re better to let it go on down the road, save yourself the headache and money.

I’m planning to button up a few small items then likely selling. It’s fun and the kids enjoy it, but I’m not in love with it. I’ll likely get an early bronco. I know it’s starting over again, but I love the work.
