Nothing in this world worse than having a hurt dog. He can't tell you what and where it hurts, he won't eat because he's in pain, he can't understand that the pills are to make him better, and he thinks he's being punished because you won't play with him.

Here he is at the vet clinic today, drunk as a skunk after being sedated for xrays....

I feel for you my man. Dogs are incredible. And as bad as they feel they still want to do the right thing and please you.

I truly hope your boy gets well soon.

Hope he gets better quick. Dogs are great. They want nothing more than to make you happy. Most of them, that is.

I use to couldn't understand how people could kill somebody over a dog,but after 15 years w the same one I get it.

Guess I should have said what his problem is....

Couple of weeks ago, he started limping. On a weekend, of course. Took him to the emergency vet clinic in Vass (because it was closest, and both my mom and my MIL were in the hospital over that weekend). Xrays said it wasn't bone or joint, diagnosed as sprain or strained muscle or ligament. Sent home with pain pills and anti-inflamitory. Took to our vet about a week later, he shot new xrays, also thought was a ligament, had ortho vet review xrays, continued pain pills. He's been off of pain pills for about a week and was doing great.

Up until the storm. Yesterday morning, wife took him for a walk, he slipped on the ice and went down. Yelped so hard that neighbors came out; they called me. Same leg. Local vet didn't think broken, said wait and see. He hardly sleep at all last night. He spent most of night pacing. Swollen and very painful today. Took him to Quartet in Cary this morning (great emergency vet clinic, BTW). More xrays. No fracture. Thinks he has torn/ruptured a tendon.

Right now, pain pills and anti inflammatory. Probably go see the orthopedic vet on Monday (they are sending xrays to him to review).

Used to think dogs were ‘just’ a pet and a thing you had...until I bought my first dog. Now I’ll pay someone to stay at my house with them just so I don’t get that confused/scared dog face dropping them off at the boarder or someone’s house. My first dog (Mastidane) is pushing 8 years old and showing her age. Not looking forward to the inevitable over the next couple years.

I love dogs so big you can hug them.

Same...one of my favorite pics from a couple years ago at my mom’s. The two on the outside are mine. Left is an 18 month old 110lb Great Dane. Middle is my mom’s Golden Retriever/black lab 70-80lbs. On the right is my oldest, Great Dane/English mastiff...5-6 years old here and 160-170lbs.

Sorry about your dog hope he gets to feeling better, after my 11 year old lab died I’ve never brought another home.

How old is he??

When he found* us in 2010, our vet thought he was maybe 2-3 years old. So maybe 10 now.

All 3 xrays done in the past few weeks, the vet has said his joints looked great, as far as arthritis and other age-related issued.

*He found us alright....he picked us, showed up on our porch, and hung around a few days. Then moved in. Later found his owner, who we found had dumped him off at a local vet clinic, after hours. He escaped from there, made it about 10 miles to our house.

Hope y'all get it figured out and he gets better!

Sounds like all the makings of a best friend. I truly hope he gets better soon. All my thoughts are with you and him. Get well soon!!!

I'm up because my 13+ yr lab has vestibular disease and borderline dementia. Sometimes she sleeps through the night; others she just starts randomly barking at 4 am. Put her on the couch with me and she sleeps deeply next to me...I remain awake.

This is the price we pay for having them in our lives. Godspeed....

I have two my squirrel hunting dog Dixie who is the best dog ever and then there is marley worst damn dog Ever. Marley is a full blood pit chews through every crate we have ever put her in that includes full metal crates. She has destroyed two sets of furniture knows how to open cabinets and even open jars of peanut butter. But the worst thing is she will eat turds fresh out her butt and burp in your face. I hate that damn dog but my kids love her.

Losing a dog is the price we have to pay to recieve years of unconditional love from them....it sucks, but is also totally worth it. I've already informed my supervisor that if something ever happens to either of my dogs, I'm probably not going to be at work for a while.

Hope your doggo gets better soon! It's pretty amazing how resilient they are.
