doomsday preppers

lol saw this thread twice....

I'm not calling names, but Im pretty sure basedon past posts that we have at least one regular member who is a HUGE prepper....like 6 month food supply and buried ammo huge.

It is smart to prepare for anything!!! Stock up on food, ammo, essentials, and seeds!!! Yes I said seeds, if something does happen wouldn't you wanna know that you have the supplies to get a garden started and enough ammo to defend/protect from the "thugs" that will start roaming once they eat all there food in 1 day???

Not sure if you've seen the show, but a 6 month food supply and some buried ammo doesn't even begin to touch these people. They are INSANE. Words cant really describe how hilarious it is to watch the show, you just have to check it out.

i am prepared for doomsday. i keep a hundred dollar bill hidden in my wallet, and a few hidden around my house.
i am not trying to be disrespectful to anyone or their beliefs, but that shit is fucken crazy. i can't believe people actually have time to worry about this shit.
yes it is smart to prepare for things, but i don't believe this is one of those things i need to occupy my time with.
there was a mention of seeds, if their is an apocalypse, the last damn thing i'm going to be worried about is growing a damn tomato. i can see your logic, but i think i have other skills that will be needed more than gardening.

That girl was by far the biggest idiot. She had just about nothing stock piled, and her plan was basically to have a few hiking type bags ready to go and then she was going to hike out of Houston to her "Bug Out Vehicle" which was some truck parked in a parking lot on the outskirts of town

So many problems with that, I don't even know where to begin. She wound up joining the Army so I suppose she may actually be actively participating in the end of the world.

i dont think its all that crazy. civilization runs in cycles. ours is due for collapse. Our Economic system is so fragile right now, it could crumble at any minute. We are one Black tuesday from seeing the worst global financial collapse in history.

The political climate around the world is even more volitile. With China chomping at the bit to overrun korea, Iran setting in motion plans to destroy Israel, and Russia eyeballing us, parking long range bombers in cuba, and flying them over DC. China has a full size street grid lay out of DC on its nuclear test range. Greece is well past collapse, and may never recover. Europe's next on the chopping block.

Any number of small things could happen to disrupt life as we know it. Fuel prices going up one or two dollars a gallon is what set off the last depression in the U.S. a war in any of the major countries could easily drive that up as far as $8-10 a gallon, and the country would be in a world of hurt. Companies would start shutting down left and right, families would get more and more desperate, order would start to break down. next thing you know....you're mad max, driving the sand filled semi, and you're down to your last shell.....

so yeah, i have a bug out kit.

"Civilization" just doesn't "collapse". Dark ages come and go, sure... but all these people that imagine themselves to be one-man armies, camped out on their roofs guarding the food plot with a .308... well, those guys end up dead. Dead of infection, dead of starvation, dead by a team of other folks determined to take his stuff. You can't stay awake forever.

The reality is that whenever groups of people are confronted with extreme adversity, they help one another out. They team up, pool resources, and capitalize on the strengths and weaknesses inherent in the group. Look at the Japanese Tsunami... look at Haiti... Katrina (the actual events, not CNN's imagined ones), the plane that crash landed into the Hudson... on and on. Some people freak out, some people are selfish, but by and large, the group works together to protect its members. It's how we made it out of the caves in the first fawking place.

Excellent point.

this was written about a end of the world event. It hits home hard because its set in the NC mountains (BLACK MOUNTAIN)

Ya'll need to read more. No I'm not a preper but I have certain beliefs. These people on TV are extremeist and a bit one sided and very narrow minded on their approach. ANYTHING is plausable. It's TV for entertainment, take what you will from it. I'm prepared but I intend to rely on a multitude of preperations. First and foremost my beliefs and faith between me and my creator. All things have a begining and end and I have no say or prediction of how or why. Lastly that I am one man and survival will depend on educated groups of coheisive adults and those units must be like minded and trusted to the core in their beliefs and methods.

Be well versed and host to a multitude of skills, put your faith were its should be and let the man sort it out. Its not the chalenges, the race, or the outcome that will matter. Only how you handle the situations put before you.

mans natural instinct is to work towards the betterment of the group. but we arent all just gonna meet at the bonfire and start singing koombaya (how ever its spelled).

im not prepared for 99942 Apophis to strike, but i do have the
ability to climb out of bed, throw my clothes on and grab my duffle bag, and know that im covered for many situations. Whether that be a loved one in trouble, a friend with a broken down car, family member in hosptital, neighbor with a bear rattling his trashcans (happened a few miles from my house, im not kidding).

Ding ding.

IMO the best thing you can do to be "prepared" is to be smart and creative with resources, learn to be a leader and keep your cool in adverse situations, and have a long of friends.
You know, be a good Boy Scout.

Did anybody see the "crovel"? I want one of those. That dude should have kept that idea to his self and patented that idea.

....and we all end up dead anyway:flipoff2: I didn't watch the show but are any of those people worried about the zombies???? The apes taking over???

Seriously though, I have a cousin that is a college biology professor and he's pretty deep into this stuff. Some of his views are really interesting. I however am a little too busy living to be worrying about something so negative everyday.

There is nothing wrong with being prepared for a worst case scenario but the people on the show are pretty nuts. Their whole life revolves around hoarding stuff. If the crap hits the fan I'm not going to stick around at my house I'm packing up the Jeep with our stuff and heading to friends/church member's house in the country. This way my family and I are away from the "roaming gangs" and basic civil unrest that is bound to happen. We will be with good people that are close to other good people and they all have land that we can live off of. The way to survive is to be with a group of people that you can trust.

Im not too worried. Im going to team up with Bear Grylls and we are gonna run :poop:! Ha ha.. Guns/ammo are the best resource. You can hunt/defend/take. Growing crops are for farmers.. Who has time to do that when zombie looters are after you?!?

They are over the top but it's good tv haha!

That being said, yeah I have a few guns and a decent supply of ammo and a bug out bag ready to go and an escape plan with a few well prepared and like minded individuals. Hmm, guess we should add some females to the plan so we can repopulate the earth!

Lets be a little more selective than "some" females. I vote for a deaf, mute version of that chick on the weather channel. She could come in handy!

Winner, Winner...chicken dinner.
A huge example, 9/11.

We immediately banded together as a country ready to take on all challengers....

Yup. The way I figure, you should be able to be 100% self-sufficient for 14 days. If you've got a decent supply of food around the house and some camping supplies, that's easier to do than you might think. That'll ensure you're prepared for any minor inconvenience that might come along, too.... like snow/ice storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc.

But after 3-4 days, you should be working on a 'tribe' arrangement of some sort, regardless. Neighbors, family, etc. The division of labor aspect is reason enough... clearing the street from downed limbs, butchering livestock, maintaining security from looters... hell, just the idea that you can't know how to do everything. Maybe your neighbor knows all about how to prevent blossom end rot or how to build a still or repair a roof, or... who knows.

I don't have to "prep"...

I grew up in the mountains where most of the "preps" people do are just a normal way of life.

I feel bad for all you city folks that think heading to the woods is going to be a good idea in a true SHTF scenario.

OPSEC breeched....

Out.
