Droid

Month 2 of use. Been good.

Battery power varies. I went out wheelin last weekend and left said phone in my car all day, no use. Battery was in eggscellent shape.

However a couple days ago I showed a bunch of photos on my phone, then a bunch of texts and then on the internet a lot. Battery sucked .

I've never had to charge half way through a day (if I started with a full charge at the beginning of the day). However I do take care of my battery, full discharge. I always do full discharge because I spend 98% of my time near a charging source (work computer or at home or in my car).

The stock photo gallery viewer sucks. I'm gonna look into downloading a new one.

Advance Task Killer is CRUCIAL. If I open a bunch of apps, I'll just use task killer to kill them all. Saves battery power. Great if you use your phone a lot, but then it sits. Do the task killer before setting it down.

Also Power Manager is awesome. Instantly tells you how much battery power you've got, can turn on wifi instantly and same with GPS. Easier to use than going into settings.

As of now, my phone needs a charge once every 2 days or so. I just charge it on my work computer.

Speaking of which, the wall charger is WAY faster. However I always forget to do it at home.

The nice thing is if I ever wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep, I can just reach over, get on my droid and look at pirate . Easier than getting a computer started up.

My $4 car charger has turned out to be...well...a $4 car charger. Only works with a certain orientation in the cigarette lighter. However I rarely use it so it is fine. Charging also seems to be quick with this charger as well. If you plan on charging in the car often, then spring for a better charger.

My cheapo screen protector and case still work fine. The case is already faded so its half blue and half clear. Whatever, still works. It isn't "crappy" enough for me to replace. Screen protector has a few scratches on it. Does its job.

Be careful when picking cases. A lot of them are bulky. Just take up extra room in your pocket. Pockets are staying the same, but phones are getting bigger!

Compass, DOWNLOAD IT. Very convenient to have.

The google maps brings teh awesome. Add the traffic layer and you are golden. The google nav works great. Used it last night to find a bar because the jerk who "knew" where it was spent all his time talking trash and got us lost . Droid saved the day.

Droid light = win. That is all there is to it.

I had the "pattern lock" on there. Waste of time. I just don't put my SS and bank acct on the thing. Not like I need to check my bank acct every 3 seconds.

as far as the email account linking is concerned (and the main reason for me trying to get this phone -

From what I have searched you can link it to a POP3 account fairly easily (just like setting up MS outlook). Has anyone else done this?

Basically, I want to validate getting a droid over a blackberry - if i can prove it functions well with the POP3 email account, then I'm going to get it

i have mine linked directly to my hotmail, it works just fine.my last phone was a htc diamond and it ran windows, it always felt clunky and awkward to use. i went with the droid instead and it's a whole lot easier to use.
i had to go do some tech training in charlotte a few weeks ago and the google nav got me all around without ever getting me lost.

Go to market place and get the taskforce killer. It kills all runing apps at once or you can select which ones to leave running. Made a big difference in my driods battery life especially since I have a scanner program in mine to monitor city and county fire as well as police and ems for all of wilmington/new hanover county and other areas throughout the state
