Drunk drivers on the trail

How do you know they were drunk? What was their BAC?
The only thing I see wrong in that picture, is a fine for having alcoholic beverages in a National Forest.
Maybe the owner was drunk and his inexpierenced wife decided to take the wheel??
Just saying (and stirring):flipoff2:.....
Rob

False. There is NO fine for having alcohol in a National Forest, unless you are driving or publicly intoxicated.

I was in Cherokee National Forest on Labor Day at a place called Compression Falls. The Forest Service hiked in and checked my ID along with a few others who happened to be drinking.

The ranger said that drinking in a National Forest is completely legal, as long as you are not publicly intoxicated or underage. I was neither and he had no problem.

Now state forests are different. State forests are up to the jurisdiction of the state, and from what I know in NC it is then illegal.

i am 100% in favor of no drinking on the trails.
i am 100% in favor of drinking at the campsite.

when we were there on labor day weekend, officer foote was at our campsite 4-5 times(illegal campers in the group camp), i know he had to have seen the table covered in beer cans, as a matter of fact i had one in my hand while talking to him(in a coozie thingy) but he isn't dumb, he knows people are drinking.he is there to keep the peace and make sure no one is being stupid.
if they (law enforcement) want to be hard-asses, we are all in trouble for something. they don't want to be mean, they just want to make sure everyone is being safe and responsible.
if you are being a dick, you will get treated as such.

****we were not the illegal campers****(i guess we were the illegal drinkers)

The story is, this kid borrowed the truck from his dad in Jamestown.

Don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather go to jail then tell my father I wrecked his truck...while wheeling it AND drunk. Ever since I backed my dad's truck into the ditch when I was 3, I learned not to piss him off

I got one to add to the story pile. Back years ago I worked at Land Rover Charlotte. We got a call from this girl who got her Rover stuck.

What happened was it was her dad's brand new Land Rover Discovery. She had it FOR THE DAY. Some douche nozzles convinced her to take it out to the illegal trails and jump it. The jump was epic fail since the jump was into a giant ditch.

The dealer wouldn't go get her since the land was illegal. When it finally showed up at the shop around 5pm, there was $10k worth of damage...and only 7,400 miles on the odometer.

Glad I was never that stupid.

Why is it always Busch drinkers? Is there something in crappy beer that makes you retarded? It seems like 90% of the beer cans I pick up on the trail are Busch

or Bud Light cans

Not really. He stated that there are SPECIFIC areas designated as no drinking areas.
IE, there are areas that are perfectly legal to drink.

nope, he pwnd you whether he meant to or not. you said explicitly that there was NO fine for having alcohol in a National Forest. seeing as the trails and most of the camping areas ARE part of the National Forest, you my friend were in fact pwnd.

Well either way I was told, while in Cherokee National Forest, by a Forest Ranger, that as long as you are of age, and not publicly intoxicated, there is no fine.

Different Forests have different laws. Brown Mountain (Pisgah) is 100% no alcohol allowed (At least around the OHV side). There is a sign similar to the one in URE posted at the entrance that states the laws. We camp there and they will check you coolers no matter where your at. Camp Site or not.

Wow he really pegged that thing HARd. I bet he's still feelin' it.
Gonna be some fun time w/ the frame straightener for that that front core.

Wonder what they want for the yota.... as it is...

When i was 16 I accidentally ditched my S10, I was camping just at the end of the school year, way too drunk to be driving. The RCMP (I'm from Canada) gave me the option to spend the night in jail or call my mom at 3am. I told the Mounties I wanted to sleep it off, they made me call home. My mom broke my nose with one swing of her purse, the cops gave my some tissues and sent me home.

Being young and dumb in retrospect is really stupid, but many of us have have been done that road at least once, some of us are too either proud or ritcheous to admit it. The one thruth about getting older, is we all used to be young and stupid.

I guess alcohol rules for National forest differ within the state. I have been drinking a beer in a cuzie at Uwharrie and Brown Mountain late in the evening at a designated campsite. At Uwharrie; the ranger asked to see my ID, then said have a nice evening. At Brown Mountain; the ranger said, here's your ticket. Enjoying dinner in both instances and not drunk.

I guess it depends on how the individual ranger feels that day.

Damn!. All the arguing. You can, you can't, he said you can but you can't, but you can in some places. You got pwned because your not 100% right. WTF...

i'd like to know where he found the camo busch. but why to people say "he was drunk" what's to say he just wasnt paying attention and he had friends in the truck drinking? can't really point fingers over full beer in the back.

the camo busch can be found at random places here in NC. no real ryhme or reason, some places have it, some don't. pretty sweet looking cans. got some at Ocracoke this past wkend. I think it's more prevalent east of raleigh.

and don't be rediculous...his judgement was imparied by the beer, he didn't have to be 'drunk'. we all know how the world works.

You are luckiest SOB ever. In college I had a roommate who did a similar thing at age 16. He wrapped his dad's truck around a tree. Cops gave him 25 tickets and threw his ass in jail.

Took years for that crap to get all sorted out. It definitely opened up my eyes about DUI and how much it can screw you over these days.

You on the other hand, got away by the skin of your nose. Literally.

Busch Light is a "Gateway" beer. :poop:

I talked to Janet during the last workday about alcohol. It is permitted in any primitive camping area in the forest. Not sure if that means you can have it while camping on the trail since it is illegal to have it on the trail, how would you get it to the camp site. It is up to the host at GC to allow it or not. Illegal in campsites but normally overlooked if you act like you have sense.
