Economy: Who's slow, who's slowing, Who's booked and who's out of control?

Work

Diesel Tech, I'm a Ford Diesel Tech and were wide open! We do all kinds of aftermarket performance diesel work also and there seems to be no shortage of money flowing in that dept either!

Do you guys offer tours to the public Chip? That would be cool to see since I use your product in my line of work. Got a tour of the Tyco/AMP plant earlier this year to see how they make Cat5e and Cat6 cable and I was impressed.

Joel if I can remember, I have a video on it on my pc at work that I can try to email you... its old, but kinda cool...
Also, Ill check to see if we do any public tours at any of our plants... We have cable plants in Hickory and Winston, and Fiber plants in Concord and Wilmington...

Cool. I would like to take my team to see it. Wilmington is a bit far but Concord would be doable.

I split my time between my parts buisness and a Offroad fab shop.July is always and always has been a suck month for sellin parts but thing have picked back up and are rollin pretty good.Gettin harder to find good stuff due to metal prices though. The parts buisness and the fab buisness are pretty much the same,no security,no buisness projections,no nothin, just take it at it comes and hope you survive in the mean time.

People are still buying buggies, so business is good.

Wife is a realtor, and is having one of her best years yet. Would be better if the press would STFU about housing prices and loan BS.

I have always been of the opinion that people will do without stuff they need to get stuff they want.

forklifts, been real busy the last two months

Forklifts, dry wall cranes, boom lifts, Moffets, Scissors lifts,

I seem to be moving from one large repair project to another, and being interupted in those to take care of "urgent" repairs elsewhere.

my company changed our schedule form 5- 8 hour days to 4 10hour days, half the crew off on Mon or Friday.

The extra day off just leaves me further behind, so I went back to a regular schedule. I may not catch up, but I'll should at least be able to tread.

85 peices of equipment to service in a month NOT counting break downs, and other equipment that gets added here and there, scattered across several counties, yeah, it's busy out there.

Wal-Mart Distribution weve been cutting hours lately, but Christmas season is about to start. I also lay ceramic tile on the side. It comes and goes. I make enough at wallyworld to pay the bills. Tile jobs pay for truck stuff and wife stuff.

the fitness industry has been slowing a bit, but that is normal for summer

however, personal training appointments are slightly on the rise for the past few months as well as clients looking for more diversity in training

Job

I am retired. It seems to be holding up pretty well under the current economic conditions. I have plenty of work so things are pretty good. (Actually they are GREAT)

Another man down. I bragged too soon about full staff. That's 2 in 2 weeks. And 32 hours has became mandatory for everyone except me since I have work right now. Subject to change after this job is done. Good for me being here longer than anyone else and knowing the ropes to get the jobs out and being the one for hot potatoes. I've been told I have more job security than the bosses but that says nothing if the doors close. At 35 y.o. retirement isn't an option and it's tuff to change careers but if the economy don't pick up for construction, I may be looking into something else more demanding? Like serving coconut drinks down in the Bahamas? :flipoff2: Or the dude that works at the strip joint might need help?:flipoff2:

Never seen the Concord plant, but the Wilmington plant is really cool. We've done a lot of work there in the past (and currently) and its cool to watch that stuff being made, even for the 100th time

I work for a Motorola dealer here in Charlotte, well, technically we cover pretty much the whole state. We do all kinds of communications work from simple police car two way radios all the way up to building out whole radio systems and 911 call centers, and everything in between. We've got so much business going on right now that we're seriously struggling to keep up with it all. We really need to hire several more full time guys for automotive install type work and some electronics techs as well. It's looking like there's no end point in sight for the work right now. Anybody who's looking for that kind of work, for God's sake shoot me a PM!

My wife works for John Deere makin lawn tractors and starting next week they are manditory 10 hours days.Hard for me to believe that they are sellin that many 3k mowers when the mortage comp's are foreclosing on houses everyday.

Jeep dealer service tech here. Been really busy this year. People are repairing their vehicles instead of replacing them. Averaging 60 hour flat rate weeks in a 36 hour work week.

I also do lifts and gear swaps on the side. That has been as busy as I want it to be. I turn away more work than I take on.

My wife is a mobile dog groomer. She is booked out a year in advance. Business is good for her.

I truly think the economy is not as bad as the media makes it out to be.

State gov't IT worker here (network admin) and doing good. People still want to hunt, fish and register their watercraft, so business is good.
