ECORS Fall Brawl 2009

Yeah, sorry about the lack of updates. I was hoping to relay messages out during the race, but it never happened.

I'm sorting through photos and video now. Should have some stuff ready to go in a couple of days. I'll keep you posted.

Is nobody going to mention the XJ that rolled?

well OK, besides the 2 guys inside, I must have had the best view...I was about 10 ft behind them haulin tail down the mountain. The bumps and especially the water runoff trenches (about 8" deep x 8" wide) were causing our rear ends to bounce bigtime. I dunno about mine, but his rear wheels were like 4' off the ground. On the last bounce, their rear end just hopped up and around with a lot of passenger side lean, that was enough to start the sideways roll. I couldnt tell if the passenger side ever hit the ground or if the roof was the first to hit ground, then it continued and landed on all 4 wheels, perpendicular to the trail, with the nose on trail. My co-driver and I exchanged some #%*^ garage words, and I was able to whoa it up ending up right next to them. They were sitting there, looking as good as can be expected, we radioed in about the roll, trail clear, they look Ok, we're rolling on.
After the race, they said the XJ cut out or they lost brakes and they were e-braking it...that must have sucked, it was scary enough coming down with full brakes.

The XJ that rolled overheated approaching the top of the hill. As they crested the top it died. With no power breaks and apparently way to much speed they tried to restart it, slow down, and stay on the trail all at the same time. Well they didn't get it started or stay on the trail, but found that they could just roll it to a stop. Luckily it stopped before heading down the hill. Both were fine today at lunch. Luckily we spent a night last week putting in a cage and some brand new RCI harnesses. That cherokee should be back for the next race if it holds up through a little winter rock crawling.

Thanks to everyone that made this event happen. Even though I wasn't able to race this time around I think that I will be in a rig next time.

like braxton said. I was the first to come up on the big blue trail plug. After ~30 seconds of discusion, ew decided I would try and push with fwd to a spot where the rest of us could pass. I scraped thru, and I think lady turtle was behind me.
I think the next lap, 156 was in the same spt, but one lap later I came up on Keith (156 navigator) on foot waving us down, with no rig in sight. I stopped, he asked if he could have a ridxe in back....I said 'no, I don't have a back seat, gotta go". Shortly after that, John was babying it up the trail and pulled over for me. I don't fully understand what happened there, but something about Keith was fixing a battery cable ground, and got the XJ running, maybe John couldnt stop due to the clutch issue, leaving Keith behind.

Blue trail plug.. i resemble that remark.

Just after armourall / pull cable on the hill climb, we lost the hydraulic clutch, and it wouldnt start (no power). we had a bad connection on the positive lead. Keith was able to get it running, by giggling the wire. Once it was running I tried to find a better place off the trail so people could get by.

I was sitting about 50 yards downhill from the crash. My buddy was listening to his I-pod so loud that I could hear the music too.

When the xj started crashing and all the VERY LOUD bangs were happening, my friend pulled off the earphones and said';' What was thunder?'' I said ''no, somebody just crashed hard...lets go'' I thought someone was gonna be hurt , just going by how loud and bad it sounded.

The dogs barked until 2:30 and the roosters started crowing around 3:00...

I was so stoked to see some of my Palmetto state boys represent...and they definitely lived by the go hard or go home motto!

It was a blast teching you guys in at 3 AM...glad you had fun, sorry you rolled.
And no, I still do not believe the Jeep ever installed a GM 5.3 in any XJs!

Brad,
Any other event and you would be a lock for the hard luck award, I thought it might be a bad sign when 45 seconds into the first lap of the first rig of the first race of the day we had "Team off course; unable to extract; unable to continue." But it got better. Seeing you try the hill twice in 2wd was a sight...you might have made it around 9AM by the time A class started there was not much left for traction...
Look on the bright side if you werent there Dave might have not been able to drive home!

Ah, I disagree... if he weren't there, we owuld have been able to finish winching foward and back onto the trail! When I first stopped, it was about 2' from his bumper. During the winching to get back on, it pulled my nose up ahgainst his tail.
Honestly I think if we'd just kept the winch going, it might have just pushed him on down the hill...
