A good friend shared the name of a reasonably priced engine builder for my “new to me” 4.0l. The engine is slated to replace the tired 4.2l in my CJ7.

I called his shop and received an amazing price (sub $2k) for a stock rebuild covering basic machine work, parts and labor. The down side is that he’s ~2hrs away. I’m leaning towards his shop due to the personal recommendation, but wanted to see if there were any other closer shops I should call.

I’d love to find someone closer to Wake Forest / Durham / Durham.

The engine just needs to be a reliable, stock rebuild using decent quality parts. Shouldn’t need anything major as it came from a running XJ and has ~200k miles.

Any recommendations?

If I had the money…. Reality is that I have a small budget and really just looking to get this engine rebuilt to stock specs for a reasonable cost. The Jeep takes kids and I out for ice cream or to their practices / games with occasional trips to URE or to the trails in VA.

He's on Capital, just south of Falls, back behind another building.

The mystery shop is…

Auto Machine Shop in Fayetteville
You mean Motor Part & Machine on Russel street? They are a good simple shop. I have had block work done there and they did a good clean job. Anything fancy, I’d go somewhere else. Also, they make and balance a decent driveshaft.
