engine swap help TJ 97 - 03 4.0 litre

i ran into some fund problems, but should be finished this weekend. hows your doing?
Mines finished! runs great everything, well worth the effort. Only took me about a week total to get everything done. The only problem was when i got it running i found out my "All Gears Shift Fine" Ax-15 that i went about 5 hours out of my way for. Has a bad syncro so no first gear. Other than that i love it!

wow, gotta love that, i guess you cant trust anybody... its taking me longer to do due to at first i ran into fund problems but now im all sorted out, but i decided to put a new clutch kit into it while i still have it kinda all out of the engine bay again, along with new seals (front and rear main seal) and valve cover gasket along with a new exhaust manifold (header)... are you still running stock gears in the axles? i had 4.88 in mine when i had the 4 cyl in there, and now that the 4.0 is in there i think it might be a little much with that low of a gear?

i have 4.88 gears in mine also with 35-14.50 boggers on the ends. Pulls perfect! I love love it. It feels very stockish+some torque. But let me tell you its a "GAS EATER"....lol

i am looking for a engine harness for a 2002 4.0 engine. i dont know how but the ends that plug into the computer of the firewall got SMUSHED and are not usable. Does the 2000+ cherokees use the same harness as the wrangler? does it matter if the cherokee is automatic transmission? if anyone reading this knows please let me know so i dont buy soemthing i dont need.

i know it will be a gas eater for me too but thats still better than a GAS EATER 4 cyl with no power... i was getting 13mpg due to me having to push the gas pedal 90% all day everyday, so atleast with the 4.0 i will be having power so i know where the gas is going haha... what is your milage?

seriously i need help with this one, i need to find out if i can use the wiring harness for the engine off of a Cherokee to fit onto my 2002 4.0 wrangler, 5speed? i know the cherokees mostly come with an auto tranny so will that affect it or not? i have been doing research and searches for the past 3 days now to find out with no luck. The junkyards dont even know if it will work or not. The local LKQ here has tons of Cherokees out there that i could rip the harness off of. I do not have the part number off the old harness due to it being in really bad condition, so i need help with the next step to take. i really appreciate it if anyone knew any info or could point me in the right direction.

No it will not work. because the cherry harness also has a secondary computer that runs the tranny, and it will goof everything up since you have a standard. You need to find a wrangler wiring harness.

the swap if finally finished, i ended up doing a 97 TJ 4 cyl. to a 02 TJ 4.0 swap with 31,xxx miles, and it was NOT a plug and play deal due to the (no distributor and what not on a 02 model) i swapped over EVERY single connector, wire, electrical component, dash, wire harnesses, airbag system, complete interior, complete emission related components, axles, engine, transmission, t-case, skid plates, gas tank assembly with fuel lines, (literally EVERYTHING) etc... so the only thing i kept was the frame and cab due to me having a clean title to my name, the rest is all a 02 model. Also while i was there i did a 4" rubicon express suspension lift, 1" poly body cab mount lift, SYE with tom woods shafts, 4.88 gears, RE sway bar discos, flex a lite electic fan conversion, NV3500 tanny, advance adapter t-case bracket for better shifting, 1" motor mount lift, rock light, 33" MTR's and alot more that i am forgetting. It was alot of work to do but now its finished, i will be taking pictures shorty and posting here so some of you who want to see what it turned out like can see. I never really post anything here, i just read ALOT what others do and i follow their builds.
