Engineering jobs and small towns near Asheville

What are your thoughts on Morganton? From all I've heard, it's very tough in actual Asheville to land an M.E. job but there are a fair amount of openings that I know of down here--wages will be lower than a job in Charlotte but so is the cost of living by a fair amount.
It's pretty theoretical right now, just information gathering . If we're gonna move, it's gonna be all the way in the mountains, preferably up a big hill with a nice view and a nice creek.

I make a point to always drop a deuce whenever passing through Morganton.:flipoff2:
That and have a burrito with my pal @braxton357

There is a grocery store crapper close to Brown Mtn that would flush something like a dead cat or maybe a pair of pants. I've never seen anything as remarkable since. Must be a Morganton location you have visited before.

Taxes are pretty stupid high in Buncombe County. We moved to Henderson County and nearly cut our taxes in half.
Mills River, Arden, Fletcher, Hendersonville all have multiple manufacturing facilities. Look into Pisgah Forest and Brevard for cities 1/2 hour away from Asheville but with amenities for everyday life. All of the aforementioned towns will allow you to locate to Henderson or Transylvania counties and save on taxes.

It's a great area to live in around here. This is where we'll be for good no question about it.
If I can get you any info, just ask.

We spent four days in late October last year hiking around the Brevard area in the Pisgah National Forest and Dupont State Forest. Wow was it beautiful. I would love to live up in that area. We rented a house up on top of the mountain overlooking the town of Brevard. I could see myself living somewhere like that.

I would add that if a person were to work on the North side of Asheville they may want to live on that side, crossing North to South on weekdays is an absolute cluster due to road designs. I've only lived in Hendersonville since I moved up but if I were to move I myself would look at the area between Hendersonville - Brevard and Brevard - Mills River. Nice big slice of beautiful pie to choose from.

For the past 6 or 7 years my wife and I have been vacationing in Mills River and Hendersonville. It's a beautiful area with plenty to do. We absolutely love it out there and hope to relocate there. Its just talk right now but the talking develops into planning :)

It's the same topic that floats in everybody's heads that work in crammed RTP or Charlotte... But once you've experienced living in the mountains it is in the blood permanently!

I know from experience you have to sacrifice in pay big time for 90% of jobs including Engineering. Was the reason I moved away to come here. But money ain't everything...

I have a sister-in-law that relocated from Durham to Kingsport being an accountant and she got her pay matched. Actually with a raise considering no state taxes. So it can be done.

I wish you luck! And I will be envious if you go without me!

One last thing, most likely you can either live on a hill with a view or you can live in a hollow on a creek. Very seldom do they come together.

Tennessee has no state income tax? Hmmm....

I've seen a couple pieces of land that have view and a nice creek, but they come with a healthy price tag too.

Tell me about it... They have the impression up there that their land contains gold? My dad has been looking for land to farm up there for years and can't find anything less than 18k/acre. He's determined now to just move back to Eastern NC where land is still cheap.

Try the tri-city area of Tennessee which is Johnson city, Kingsport, and Bristol. Very similar terrain as WNC and much cheaper to live. As said before no income tax and not as many weird creatures if you know what I mean.

the problem with asheville aint the hippies but the damn uber liberals with 'power'. there IS a difference. hippies are too lazy / stoned to vote
