Ok,
Twice now, on the way to work, I have been tailgated on I-40 by possibly the same driver, different vehicle. His/her MO is the same. If you are in his/her way, you get the inch-from-your-rear-bumper tailgate and high beam treatment until you have had enough and change lanes. Should you high beam him/her after they pass, the MF will start weaving all over the road to block you while him/her comes to a stop...on the freeway! Needless to say, I have been able to squeak by and move on. Options I have considered include taking my favorite 12ga along tomorrow to filing a complaint with NC HP. When it happended this morning, I got the tag number.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE ASKED, I WAS IN THE SECOND LANE FROM THE RIGHT ON 4 LANE INBOUND ROAD... AKA THE TRUCKER LANE. HOWEVER, DUE TO ALL THE DROOLING IDIOTS THAT DRIVE IN THE LEFT LANE, THE FRUITCAKES HAVE STARTED USING THE FAR RIGHT LANES AS THE PASSING LANES. SO I STAY IN THE CENTER TWO LANES WHERE POSSIBLE.

THANKS TO ALL THE REPLY'S. LOOKS LIKE I HIT A NERVE WITH SOME OF YOU WHICH WAS ANTICIPATED. I THINK WE ALL, NATIVE TO NC, ARE TIRED OF THE ROAD CRAP... THE NO DRIVING MF'S, THE @$$ HOLES FROM SOME OTHER PLACE IN THE WORLD, THE SOCIOPATHS AND NARSASISTIC JERKS WHO DON'T DESERVE A LICENSE AND THOSE FROM WARMER CLIMATES THAT SIMPLY DO NOT KNOW AND CARE TO DRIVE BY THE RULES OF THE ROAD. WHEN I WENT TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN THE VERY EARLY 70'S TO SERVE THIS COUNTRY, CHP WOULD BUST YOUR @$$ BIG TIME FOR IMPEDING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. SOUNDS LIKE THAT LAW HAS MADE ITS WAY TO NC. GOOD DEAL. IN THE END, THE BASTARD THAT MESSED WITH ME WILL GET HIS SOME DAY. HE WILL PISS OFF THE WRONG PERSON AND THEN YOU WILL READ ABOUT HIM IN THE NEWS. END OF THREAD.

What would you do that won't put you in jail but will burn his/her @$$?
 
Call HP, give tag number and say "I have a C&R driver at mile marker whatever" then give your name and phone number. Maybe a Trooper will be near and can respond, if they get enough reports in an area they might send that ulgy green Crown Vic no Tropper likes to be seen in and catch them.

Or if it early in morning slam on brakes, swear it was a deer running across the road...
 
Were you Sunday driving along in the hammer lane when the right lane was open? If that's the case all you need to do is follow the German way of driving "drive right"....meaning ride in the right lane and use the left only to pass. I don't know if this is what you were doing or not, but if you are a left lane cruiser I'll flash my lights at you to make you aware I'm trying to pass. If this isn't the case....then call th HP with the tag number.

edit: If you were indeed in the leftmost lane, or even the middle lane (on occasion) and there's no one to your right, GET THE HELL OVER.
 
Ill third the above two statements. Nothing pisses me off more than the self-important folks who consider fast drivers rude, when in reality, it is the slow drivers being rude and holding things up. With that said, if you are in the right lane, 45 is fine by me (erected signs such as "slower traffic keep right" and "keep right except to pass" agree with this).

You could play their game, but even if you win, you're just as likely to get busted. My favorite thing is the downshift or parking brake sudden slowdown. Since neither of these give brakelights, the other driver will run up on you before they realize to slow down. Be prepared to speed back up though, as I don't think you really want to be in a accident. Doing this helps illustrate that they are following too close, and if you time it just right, you can be going by a Trooper, and he will see a guy riding your butt and driving erratically and will likely solve the problem.
 
Funny.. I see people hauling butt on the Highway, running thru traffic like there's no tomorrow (eventually that will be true for them). But me... Hell, I'm not in that big a hurry to get to work.

As for what to do. Call it in. Even with as Pissy as I can get on the road, My two little girls and wife at home are more important than some asshole on the road. Since you weren't in the fast lane (passing lane), what I generally do is to slow down and block them in traffic as best possible. If a two lane road with double line, I'll slow down to about 10mph below the speed limit. Then I wave at them.
 
Me four. By stating that this has happened more than once, it leads me to believe that you might have been "impeding the flow of traffic". I understand that there are so jack asses that think they have the right to do 90+, but they usualy pass and then go about their business. Having driven over 75k mi this year, I have witnessed plenty of this. However, more times than I can count there is someone Sunday driving in the left lane that causes bigger issues for more people. If you have been passed by two or more cars on your right, you need to get yourself into a different lane! You might find that this will eleviate the issues you have with inconsiderate drivers.
 
Time for my two cents.........

I see no reason what so ever to get out of anyones way when I'm doing the speed limit. The state posted a safe speed for all conditions for roads and that is what the law is.... I do try to stay right and keep the hammer lane open but when there is a lot of traffic getting on and off I drive in whatever lane I need to keep moving and if it is the fast lane and at the posted speed limit then so what. What gives a law breaker more power then someone following the law? Doing something like some have said that can kill or hurt someone is not cool even if they are tailgating just hold your speed and let them pass or if you feel the need move over when you get a chance. You may say the light that made them run off the road does not work or that you never hit the brakes but you never know who it is and now that the troopers are doing the things to find the problem drivers like driving in the fast lane in a van or honda then pulling you for speeding, following to close, reckless driving, and agressive driving.
We had someone at work that lost a DL for pulling up and flashing lights then passing fast and close, only to find out it was a trooper.
Call you local troopers and let them know what is going on and maybe they will get you in the area at the time you run it and find out who it is and why they feel they need to do it. I have had unmarked troopers and cops flash lights and still never move till I can only thinking they keep doing that I'm going to hit my brakes but did not and when it was safe moved over when they passed and the waved to find out it was a cop. Did they do that to see if I would do anything back or they needed to get someone fast??? Who knows but they have lights to use if they need to speed or drive fast to get someplace.

Law says keep left unless passing. No one is totaly inocent. The speeder is wrong for going so fast, and you are wrong for not staying right. This could debate for forever. Just depends on who is willing to spend the most time quoting laws.

There are places that it is posted but not many. Yes it be done but only if posted. But the speed limit is posted and is a law more people should follow.
So in short like I said I move over when I can and if I'm in the areas that post slow traffic move over and you are doing the posted speed limit them you are not slow.
You ever seen someone doing the speed limit get a ticket for doing the speed limit, NO But you always see speeders get tickets. \

Think it is keep right unless passing not the left hammer lane...
Can you show me the law please cant find it, Think it is more of a info type sign in NC like curve, hill, cross over road or deer....
Anyone get a ticket for seeing a Deer sign then hitting one???
 
I have a friend who loves to ride in the left lane because the road is smoother, I argued the point of keeping right, he just never got it. We went on a road trip a few years ago and I was following him in another car. He stayed in the left lane until somewhere around Morganton doing the speed limit and 5 to 10 over most of the time, yet still clogging the lane and causing people to pass on the right. Guess what, he got a ticket for it. An officer explained to him that it slows the flow of traffic and to move over when you see someone wanting to pass. Big deal if the guy is speeding let the HP do their job and write him a ticket. In the mean time think about all the other drivers on the road put in harms way by some jack ass wanting to ride in a smooth lane. It causes road rage among those who you can't control anyway, let them by.

State law is, if your towing, you stay to the right unless passing. No such law if not towing, but it's common curtesy to stay right if your slow.

I double checked this with my favorite attorney. :fuck-you:
 
§ 20‑146. Drive on right side of highway; exceptions.
(e) Notwithstanding any other provisions of this section, when appropriate signs have been posted, it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle over and upon the inside lane, next to the median of any dual‑lane highway at a speed less than the posted speed limit when the operation of said motor vehicle over and upon said inside lane shall impede the steady flow of traffic except when preparing for a left turn. "Appropriate signs" as used herein shall be construed as including "Slower Traffic Keep Right" or designations of similar import.
§ 20‑141. Speed restrictions.
(h) No person shall operate a motor vehicle on the highway at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law

I drive from K'ville to Greensboro and had a similar jacka$$ that kept cutting me off and swerving between cars to pass. Only difference is that it was a work vehicle, so I called and reported him to the business. He stopped doing it, but I called it in again about 3 more times hoping to get him fired. Yeah, I may be an ass, but he almost made me wreck acouple of times and my 3yr. old daughter was in the back seat. I was driving 5 over every time, and it had happened in both lanes.(right and left)

I Think I'm just going to put a couple of tires on my front bumper and push those dumb motherf'ers who clog the fast lane! The other thing I'd like to do to them is to just pull up beside them and push them into the ditch! Sorry to be such an a-hole, but left lane sitters are what causes road rage. End of story. If I was a cop, those are the people I'd be giving tickets to.

I drive fairly fast. I despise a tailgater. If I'm actively passing cars while running the left lane. Tough shit, why the fawk should I move over and have to slow down so your impaitent ass can go tailgate the guy in front of me? If the lane to my right is clear, I move over....... slowly, like it takes 1/4 of a mile to make the change. Plain and simple, if I'm running 10 over and you want to go 20 over, have fun but stay off my ass, I'll move outta your way a lot quicker if your polite than if your a asshole.

My wife got pulled and warned last year. Even though the guy that was in front of her was "impeding the flow" on 540 the HP pulled her and informed her "there is no keep right law, pass wherever it is safe, left or right, as long as its a lane. " This is no shit, I was sitting in the passenger seat and witnessed this exchange. Right or wrong, dunno, never asked. He also went on to expain the 2 offenses = c&r according to the new law. So, speeding and following too close can = c&r if the cop is so inclined to write.

Personally I figure none of ya'll can drive for shit anyway. Your either in my way or up my ass? What gives with that? :fuck-you: :lol:

I hate it both ways. They're no reason to be in the left lane if you are not passing. It's a danger and a sign of arrogance and laziness no matter how fast you're going. OTOH, tailgating and flashing someone for being in the left lane (and behind someone else) is a sure sign of arrogance and stupidity.

I have no problem with people driving in the left lane if they are making progress. Its the stagnation that makes me begin to boil. Another thing that gets me is these fools who get on the interstate and immediately cross all 4 lanes because they HAVE to get in the left lane. I just stay inconspicuous in the right two lanes at the same speed and watch the LEOs go after the left laners.
