Fire extinguishers

I have 2, one on my transmission tunnel and another on the driver rear fender

Saw this on FB shared by Busted Knuckle. Thought I would revive this old thread and see what folks think or know about this product.

I'm interested. I was about to buy some new BCs for the jeeps. I'll give these a shot.

I actually talked to the dude from the video with Matt back in the ECORS days.

Someone there contacted us about a sponsorship opportunity. (Reduced cost, still high, if we put up tons of their banners)
I was very intrigued and interested.
We had 2 questions
1- MSDS sheets on the compound - willing to sign a NDA to get them. Not available.
2- Chemical stability and resistance to rupture of the small cans. Couldn't ever get comfortable there.

Now that said...I probably wouldnt hesitate to run them in my vehicle, but couldnt cross the bridge of mandating others to run them...

I looked them up a while back and considered ordering a case of cans and selling the extras to club members. Having a fire extinguisher is something we hammer into people at meetings every few months. I carry two of the small kiddie ones in roll bar pouches, on the main hoop behind both front seats.

Interesting that they wouldnt provide MSDS sheets. That is needed for commercial/industrial adoption of almost everything.

I'd be in on that. If you do it let em know.

Yea no doubt. Wouldn't they have to provide it for the drag events they mention?

As my first thought as well.
This was 5+ years ago and they have grown tremendously since...

I would be down for a group order if they would cut a deal.

@rockcity what do you think the chances are that msds satisfies your employer?

co2 has its own issues and health risks. i challenge you guys to look into water mist extinguishers. dont know as much as you all do about this, and curious for yalls thoughts. but it appears to be a superior and safer option.

I don't care how great the shit is. If you can't tell me the chemicals in it im not using it

They are trying to be protective of their "trade secret" which I have a feeling is no more than a super concentrated wetting agent. Here is a video of soap added to a miracle grow hose end sprayer putting out a fire very quickly. Its not new technology even though it is not widely used surprisingly. I would be very surprised to find Fireade is using some new complex chemical formula. No doubt a specially designed surfactant, but probably that is all it is.

It's not too bad; I've seen worse. I'm not thrilled with section 2 but the law allows this info to be withheld on proprietary materials so long as a reliable number is available should adverse conditions exist from the product.

I don't like section 7 or 13. That wouldn't fly with me or my employer. If section 2 isn't disclosed, there is no way section 7 can be adhered to because disposal requirements are determined by the material content.

A lot of thought should be put into location as well. If you keep it behind the seat or mounted to your C pillar and you are upside down and stuck in your belts, its worthless. I keep one inside that driver and codriver can reach with the harnesses buckled and one on the back someone from the outside can reach. I see too many guys in Jeeps with their only fire extinguisher attached to the C pillar with the top on. You'll never get to it in time in that location.

Interesting you say that the x ECORS rig that I acuired has them mounted the same way. My current trail rig has two behind driver and passenger so each can reach them. Bad was the velcro mount I use. It's a lot harder to get them out than I thought. I need to change that.....

I like the quick release mounts that attach to the cage using hose clamps. They are secure in a rollover and can be removed in a couple seconds, faster than you can pull velcro off.

Yep that is what this one has. I have plans to get some for the trail jeep but life and other things keep getting in the way.....

For race applications we required at least 1 extinguisher within reach of driver AND co driver.
And a separate extinguisher accessible by someone outside the vehicle. The C pillar mounts satisfy #2.
Thinking is you want occupants to have accessif trapped to keep fire off themselves as much as possible. PLUS if a fan or other competitor gets to the rig before an emergency responder you wanted them to have an extinguisher to access.
