Fire extinguishers

For race applications we required at least 1 extinguisher within reach of driver AND co driver.
And a separate extinguisher accessible by someone outside the vehicle. The C pillar mounts satisfy #2.
Thinking is you want occupants to have accessif trapped to keep fire off themselves as much as possible. PLUS if a fan or other competitor gets to the rig before an emergency responder you wanted them to have an extinguisher to access.
And that is exactly what Andy Carter told me..... Must have been part of the driver meetings for ECORS?

It was a specific rule that was checked during tech inspection.

Ron is right. One inside mounted within reach of the occupants while strapped in and one within reach of someone outside without the use of tools. Minimum of two required.

I believe both are equally important. If your transmission spits fluid on to your headers and catches fire, an outsider can easily see that and mitigate the situation well before the occupants notice the issue, thus reducing the delay before action and saving the rig and occupants.

Saw this on FB shared by Busted Knuckle. Thought I would revive this old thread and see what folks think or know about this product.

I think these are probably potassium lactate/water extinguishers.

I was standing next to my truck when my son was testing transmission. Trans overheated and blew fluid out the dip stick on to header where it caught fire. I reached in to A pillar on passenger side, snatched the extinguisher and put the flames before there was any damage to wires or hoses

This was while I fought with the retention on the extinguisher mounted on the trans tunnel. Fire started, and my dad put it out all before I could get that main extinguisher off the tunnel.

Thankfully nothing was hurt, just shaken.

The more extinguishers the better and easy to reach and get out, even for a spectator that knows nothing of how “your “ setup is.
