Fireplace help need the pros...

Seems the pipe in floor is a outside air kit/vent!? Doesn't seem that ash or anything can get to this down pipe got all the gas stuff removed earlier pulling the gas line now to add to scrap pile, gonna weld up some leaf springs to make a firewood rack I do believe wondering if the hole the gas lines coming through should be fire caulked or something?? Also while doing this swap I get a new gas shop heater that I'll run off grill propane tank...

I'm assuming dap stove and fireplace mortar should be good to fill the gas line hole!? I've always used the red fire caulk in construction jobs to do fire caulking...

Wood will keep you warmer for longer if you carry the logs upstairs and throw them out the window and repeat and repeat and repeat. You can stay warm all winter long off a few pieces. As long as they ain't landing on concrete and busting to pieces.

Red shit won't work directly in the firebox or on the flue. It'll smoke off and stink up the house for days. Ask me how I know. Hehe

Yeah now that ya mention it I believe it's just to slow down the heat in I beams and supports and filling holes that fire could spread to!! Gonna go with the fire mortar seems bomb proof to me!?

Yes. Mortar is the way to go. If ya can get to the double wall flue in the attic, it would be good insurance to look it over real good before and a few minutes after you fire up the fireplace. There isn't a smoke detector up there to tell you that the flue has separated and your house is burning from the top down.

Good info I'll climb up and look but it seems it's double walled and not open in attic area! Will double check for sure!

@josh m i see what ya meant, actually checking the double wall itself!! Will do for sure!
