Planning a trip with a buddy this fall down to Uwharrie. Neither of us have much experience on trails and such. Ill be in a 94 jeep zj that is almost bone stock. He will be in a 02 Excursion... I am worried he will have a rough time with that tank of his. Do yall think its too big to take on the trails? Also what will we need as far as gears and any passes and such. Thanks yall.

I think y'all will have a good time as long as it doesn't get sloppy out there, the big vehicle debate often pops up on here but I have seen monster trucks out on the ohv system. If you've never been make sure to get a map and studdy it. Depending on the day or weather the harder trails dickey, Dutch and Daniel can be fun on a near stock vehicle or can be a pain.

Ok. I figured we need a map, a chain/strap, a come along, and then our camping gear. I will have a cb by that point as well. I plan on doing a 3" lift and 31s but thats about all I plan on doing. Ive heard that Uwarrie is only as hard as you make it for the most part.

Excursion.
Can I watch?
Sure. Im intrigued to see how that thing does 4000 lbs on a trail. should be fun

There is no way in hell I would take an Excursion out there, it's tight enough with my fatass JKU.

my main concern is that he is very particular about his vehicle. Hell have a fit if it gets dented or something whereas me, well its a jeep its built for this crap

Thats a 7,500lb rig.

Toss some self recovery gear into jeep,go to Eldorado outpost, purchase pass, receive free map, make friends with some of the guys in rigs sitting around out there, drive the excursion to camp, park it, have said quire ass buddy get in with you, wheel jeep with new friends.........oh and make smore's with reese's cups instead of a hershey bar they are my new fav........

Search power wagon, and the recent fun that was had with a brand new one at URE

I'll be the first person to tell you to take your stock cherokee/wrangler/4runner/ranger/explorer/etc to Uwharrie and have some fun. You'll learn how to drive it and what you need to modify. But, you have to be aware that damage can occur and be ok with that. Also, unless your buddies excursion is on 40s it's going to hang up on every water bar, he won't be able to make half the turns, and it's going to get scratches from trees/limbs along the trails.

I've got video of my buddy's deuce and a half on some of the trails out there.

Before I got my current rig I wheeled my 03 f250 supercar longbed diesel there. It was lifted on 37s with an arb front locker, but I ran wolf den, falls dam, and dickey bell. This was in 06 before the one lane bridge was built. I had to fold both mirrors in at some points and straighten the tie rod at the top of the dickey bell hill climb

Here is what you do: borrow a trailer, hook trailer to excursion, load your jeep on trailer, drive to Uwharrie, park excursion and trailer at the outpost, go wheel your jeep with buddy riding shotgun :D

This is the greatest wisdom I've seen on the Internet all week, maybe even this year.

Buget boost spacers, 31" Mt tires, a front recovery point, and wheel the crap out of it.

This is my plan. I have a 5000 lb hitch on the back I can use. Suggestions on a front recovery?
