This Flu ain't no joke. Last Sunday, I was really tired and napped on and off pretty much the whole day, went to work Monday morning, felt sick to my stomach all day, but pushed through. Monday night, went to bed and woke up many times during the night freezing and then sweating. Went to the Doctor Tuesday morning and they tested me and sure enough, had Flu A.
Hadn't had the Flu since I was 10 years old and man oh man, this one hit me hard. Even as I write this, I am still not right...coughing and just feel bad and super tired and just exhausted.

So if you feel like you might have it, go get checked out.

Had it this time last month. Type A

104.5 fever on and off for 4 days, THEN a nice sinus infection to top things off. Hadn't had the flu in 15 years...knocked my dick in the dirt and I missed 4 days of work (and I only do that for wheeling trips!)

I got it first week of January (diagnosed flu) and was fighting symptoms even during Hammers 5 weeks later. It was a mental and physical killer.

I had the flu shot in September. I concur in the no joke- 103 degree fever for more than one day was miserable. Can’t imagine 104!.

On top of that I had strep throat last week.... been a rocky start to 2018. I have gone multiple years in a row without anything more than a small cold, apparently not this year.

You bring up a good point regarding timing of the flu shot. I had a scheduled doctor appointment in early October. I asked my doc about getting the flu shot and he told me to hold out until the end of October. He said if you get the shot too early (late August/September) it won't be effective later in the flu season. I don't know if there's any truth to that or not, but he's the medical professional so I followed his advice.

The only time I have ever gotten the Flu shot was also the last time I got the Flu...which was about 20 years ago. And of coarse, I get the Flu the year that my wife is pregnant. The last week has made me feel like I was in 28 days later..

this most recent flu shot is CDC claimed to be 17% chance effective and could cause miscarriages within the first 28 days of pregnancy...

The flu shot literally gives you the flu to help build antibodies....

havent had the flu since is stopped getting flu shots

1- I dont take the flu shot
2- You are suggesting that 28% of all pregnant ladies who get the flu shot this year will have stillborns? Id love to see that data
3 - The flu shot gives you dead virus bodies so you body can adapt. To say it gives you the flu is like saying you ate a steak and the cow kicked you on the way down.

Im anti flu shot as well...but lets not go all alternate facts on us

I haven’t had a flu shot in 10 or 15 years, but a trip to China in October forced me to get a lot of vaccinations I’ve never had. A lack of basic vitamins, not much sleep, incredibly high stress levels at work basically destroyed my immune system.

stop it with the rational thought business

Seriously curious how many of y'all fellas have been given a flu vaccine in last 10-15 years? Just wondering bc everyone around me stays sick and they get vaccine ive not had one since I was in middle school roughly 20 years and I've had one 24 hour bug since then...

Don’t know how it works or doesn’t but I have had the flu shot for 16 years in a row cause Uncle Sam says so. I haven’t ever had the flu and I don’t know why or why not. Especially the last couple years cause where I work I am around a rotating source of germs and general herpalaids as Army Unit’s rotate through Fort Polk to train (a different unit every month).

Never had a flu shot, got the flu last year and it kicked my azz, the last time I had it was about 25 yrs ago. This year I got the shot after hearing it could lessen the symptoms and help to get over it sooner. I know a bunch of people who had it this year and had 104 fevers and a few apparently healthy ones who were in the hospital for days on a ventilator. Sustained 104 or more fevers can cause brain damage if they don't kill you. Most of the peeps I know that had it this year were in their late 20's to 30's.

I probably have not had a flu shot in 30-35 years. I've had the flu once during that time (about 4-5 years ago). 102 deg fever for 4 days, but went to work every day anyway since we don't get sick days. I just alternated Tylenol and ibuprofen every few hours.

@Ron

Confused the 28 day with the percent.

Of 919 miscarriage cases, 485 were confirmed eligible for medical review warranting the study. If you read the whole study, like all others, nothing is black and white. But it is enough to raise serious concerns

Got the flu shot about 20 years ago and got the flu 4 days later. Only time in my life I’ve had the flu. No more shots for my ass.

Never had the flu. Never got a shot until 7 or 8 yrs ago when the first rug rats was on the way .had a flu shot every year since.

Wheeled in my buddys rig earlier this year on a Saturday. He was bitching about not feeling good for a few days. Monday he went to doc and had the flu. It wrecked him and went onto his family members. Couple weeks later wife had flu type b and I laughed at her saying flu don't have crap on me. Still never had the flu .

@Ron

The actual virus gives me no concern as it is not really a strong virus from what I understand. Very suceptible to oxidation. The issue about flu is your body’s reaction to it (symptoms, protective responses) are violent and risky to the body especially if already week or under nourished etc.

Yes it is a dead cell but the extraction process leaves the protein shell intact (protective barrier around viruses). This is how they are attempting to boost your body’s response (symptoms) without actually getting the live virus (long lasting symptoms).

I believe inducing the symptoms too early in life or too late, forever how brief a time, presents a risky scenario to survivability or long term damage as a result of the body’s violent reaction in response to the protein markers.

Everyone’s response is different yes. But as long as effective percents are as low as 17%, I’m not a fan for infants, children, pregnant women, cancer patients or elderly who’s organs perhaps are not best suited to the symptoms.

And as long as they chose to use aluminum mercury and other heavy metals as carriers into the blood stream, I’d rather make safer choices until they do.

Just my 2 cents tho.

My wife's OBGYN actually recommended that my pregnant wife get the Flu shot this year and she did. I guess the low risk of something actually happening to the baby after getting the flu shot Vs. her actually getting the flu and something happening was much higher.

Now, I will say that my SIL did have a miscarriage after getting the flu shot while she was pregnant, of coarse, no one can say that the two are related, but it is odd.

If you're referring to the mercury used in thimiserol, that's (1) an ethyl mercury, which passes right out of the body quickly... as opposed to methyl mercury which is the one that is the actual problem (found in some fish etc), and (2) is rarely used in single-dose vials.
Also, it hasn't been used in any child doses in 17 years.
E.g.... it's not a problem.

Also, regarding aluminum - while it s in fact a heavy metal, it's rarely a problem to be in the body in the doses we're talking about, and does not persist permanently.
In fact there's probably a higher dose of aluminum in the deodorants used by millions of men every day.

All that is saying is they looked at a bunch of women who had miscarriages, and of The 919 they found who had miscarriages 485 were actually eligible to even be reviewed, meaning they had the flu vaccine.

Cdc says flu vaccination rate is 46% of americans.
485/919 = 52%... so the percentage of vaccination rate among those who miscarried is slightly elevated compared to the total population. However female vaccination coverage rate is significantly higher than male and therefor makes up a greater than equal rate of that 46% and female miscarriage rate is infinital greater than male miscarriage rate. So those numbers mean nothing towards elevated incidence rate.

This is before we even adjust/control for other risk behaviors such as drug, alcohol, cigarette abuse etc.

I hate typing on a tablet/ phone so I won't even get into your next post and moving the goal post...but in short the efficacy rate of the flu vaccine this year is at a near all time low. So by using this years efficacy levels is a bit...disingenuous.

Yup... I had it and was out for 2 weeks. Worn out, fever, shits, nasty thick mucuses... It was awesome. On a good note, I am not current on road kill, engine masters, dirt every day, all the ultimate adventures and started finnagens garage. I also lost about 15 lbs. So it has kicked off my diet pretty good.
