ford 10 1/4" full floater

Which is why you run one, right? ;)
Nice one. You remember when I was PMing you about the 10.25 you had last year? But my 3/4 ton 60 rear kinda found me, and was a way cheaper build. I'd still wheel a 10.25 based on what I've seen the other big bronco guys do with them.

weak points: the spline length on the yoke and pinion is insufficient. this causes the yoke to wobble and move causing wear on the pinion bearings affecting preload.which leads to leakage through the splines and pinion seal. this will eventually cause pinion bearings and ring and pinion failure.
fixes: buy the longer pinion with your gears and longer yoke.
ditch the stock carrier for a locker. apply silicone to the splines on the yoke before assembly to seal the yoke to the pinion shaft to stop leakage. once in a while check to make sure the nut is still tight. also get some shouldered ring gear bolts from a dana 70. the 10.25 bolts can back off and come loose.
overall , im pleased with my 10.25 . but i have done all the upgrades.
Good info there Mike. I was wondering when you were gonna pipe up about this topic.

thanks guys for all the info when I meet ya on the trail at the end of the day I owe ya a:beer:

Jeff, whats up man, that axle is strong and there are ways around the pinion issue. Sounds like your on the right track.

Let me know next time you hit the trails, I am itchin to go tear up some shit.

See ya next week
