you can swap a 9" from a 78-79 but you will not be able to run the fuel injection with the 9
Useless for serious crawling, yes. If you want to go fast and jump, baja-style, then it's a great setup.Useless ttb up front
Bingo.8.8 rear, D44 TTB front, 3.55 gears, possible L/S front and rear.
The 8.8 in the '96 has the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and tone ring in the rear, so a 9" is not a straight swap. If you want more info, the absolute best spot is here:you can swap a 9" from a 78-79
But you need it for the tranny to shift. And, I totally didn't look at the thread date. Holy old thread resurrection. This thread is two years old now, I knew I didn't remember posting in it. Anyway, you don't need the vss for the engine to run...

do you need axles ? or any sas parts ? i sell that stuff. pm me if you do. thanks. i also have 460 stuff.I guess I need to do a little more research,broncograveyard.com says it is a straight swap if you are not going to use F/I , if you are going to a carb, then a 9" is the way to go. I will hopefully soon be swapping a .040 73 460 4 speed dana44 solid axle 9" into my 93 bronco
