Bought a 2010 Escape XLT V6 6spd w 65k thursday. It seems to run flawlessly, motor/trans are very quiet and smooth. Put about 50 miles on it and I changed the front brakes yesterday w ceramic pads and turned rotors and it now drives like a brand knew car. Late yesterday afternoon it apparently went into failsafe while under power about 15 mph approaching a stoplight. An orange wrench symbol appeared on the dash ( indicating throttle control/powertrain issue ) The motor idled irradically and would not respond to throttle input, the temp guage was normal. I limped across the street and shut it off for 30 secs. It cranked up and ran flawlessly all the way home 5 miles and has'nt done this driving it 2 more times around town . I had Advance check for a code and they got nothing. I assume a dealership can find a code stored in the computer? The car has a slight oil leak I think it's the oilpan gasket but the oil is full, fresh and synthetic and beyond the issue yesterday it drives as new. Any advice is welcome.

........wifey is afraid to drive it now until we have it looked at...............

, I just got off the phone w a service adviser at Crossroads Ford who I happened to go to highschool w and is very aware of all things Ford. After describing the malfunction friday, He said exactly what yall told me, it was the tb and to clean the tb w a toothbrush and tb cleaner. He also said the tb may possibly be going bad and if so eventually it will not go out of fail safe by restarting it and the tb will have to be replaced. Thanks for the great advice guys and I'm fixin to clean it this morning if the rain holds off.
ranner up and down the road 10 mins ( not flogged ) seems OK, time will tell and so will I. It appears theres a bunch of faulty TBs w contaminated circuit boards from 09-12 and possibly a recall coming. I hope that's our problem, if it is the TB was $147 and w the brake job added it's still a great deal IMO, payed 12k, it appraised for 17+ !!
